I always feel crazy now when I'm designing stuff or talking about stuff and it's like "Well what are the mechanics?" and I'm like "what do you meaaaan who cares about the mechanics!!" and, like most things, it's just cause I'm old.
played like an hour of the first medal of honor today? that game's pretty cool. games used to have way less mechanics and way more level design

Really loving the replies on that “Gen Z likes old tech” story along the lines of “Windows 98 was the peak of Windows”. It bluescreened so often there was a way to make Windows try to keep hobbling along post-BSOD. Win98 wasn’t great! Your nostalgia is lying to you!

Also Patapon owns. Impossible game to stream if you want to actively talk during it, but such a cool game. Having to think a measure ahead does a ton of heavy lifting. My only complaint so far is the rituals are kind of annoying if you ever screw up and need to rebuild Fever.

I had the unfortunate realization today that this does, in some capacity, describe MMO GCD-style hotbar combat
I was given Patapon for @authorblu.es' discord Retroachievements Secret Santa, which was a game I was vaguely aware of but had never played. While I was getting the game set up, I had a realization: Patapon is a Necrodancer. (Or Necrodancer is a Patapon, I suppose)
