I said this would be the Republican justices play. Let Texas use the racist maps now. Later they’ll say it’s “too late” to change them.

And the hits keep coming for disabled folks, though this one has been a long time coming: #CDC employees are forbidden to WFH. There's no real reason for this, and it's especially cruel given that CDC offices were subject to gunfire just months ago.

CDC staff with disabilities feel stranded as HHS implements new policy
CDC is asking employees seeking telework as a reasonable accommodation to return to the office until their requests can be processed under a new HHS policy.

I realize everyone knows this, but you'll note that what he saw was two survivors trying to flip a boat over.

Which is a thing literally fucking anyone in a shipwreck would do.

The other stuff he said was fanfic he made up about them.
Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."

Tldr: kids, when I say don’t get long covid, I really really mean it.

Now excuse me I have half an unseasoned cauliflower left and I might pour melted chocolate chips on it.

Intrusive regret, the feeling when you cringe and overanalyze something that happened years ago, is an intrusive thought like any other.

It can be distressing, disturbing or even negatively impact our ability to function, but it isn't something we're choosing or doing to ourselves

You're going to see a lot of pixels about today's CDC ACIP meeting. The most important thing to keep in mind is that it's all a sham, it's not on the level. CDC no longer works for the American people. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is stocked with snake oil sellers and quacks.

free advice: don't get mad at a sick person w/ an unreliable body for not being able to do something

the sick person is probs already pretty mad at themselves (really at their body, but internalized ableism is a helluva drug) and managing a mountain of grief from all the other things they can't do

I feel like the world would be a much better place if everyone had to experience a terrible and socially-neglected illness like ME/CFS or Long COVID or Lyme for say 6 months

A lot of people don't seem interested in fixing their hearts, and I don't know how we build a better world w/o that changing

I’m starting to think we need a test showing nondisabled people they are overconfident in their own abilities to realistically identify problems related to ableism, because they sure don’t listen to us when we explain.

I do not know how much clearer it can be that they want to completely remove disabled people from society.

They want to return to the time where we wasted away at home or in institutions.

I know, you don’t see it in “accommodations have gone too far”, but that’s where this goes.

your kind of suspicion (is that really a service dog) has routinely impacted actual disabled people with service animals. I have a seizure alert dog who does not look like a service dog (a lab or shepherd) and have routinely experienced suspicion and distress as a consequence.
My case would be that it’s enough that you’re regularly seeing it (ie people with their dogs in the store/on planes), and that it going unchecked is damaging to the proverbial social contract.

It is incredibly fucking onerous, because some nondisabled asshole somewhere is like WAIT, what if someone who doesn’t deserve it gets help?!

Meanwhile, every disabled person: good on them! We all need to take care of ourselves and doctors don’t always understand our realities!

...And if you ARE writing your tests as a huge time pressure squeeze?

Why are you doing that? Stop doing that. You aren't testing the material you taught. I don't care if some professional (and pre-professional) exams are time pressure crunches. They probably shouldn't be either...

Regarding the accommodations discourse...

Unless you are writing your test to be a huge time pressure squeeze, giving somebody extra time isn't going to be a magical cheat code. If you don't know something in an hour, you aren't suddenly going to know it in 90 minutes...

I *did* get accommodations in college, and quickly found out that:

- many professors are passive aggressive assholes about actually accommodating you

- Disability Services wants you to work this out directly with your professor, and rarely intervenes on your behalf
anyway; I haven't ever dealt with the process of getting accommodations myself but every person I've talked to about it and everything I've read about it suggests it's a bureaucratic nightmare at best.
