It’s insane to treat the filibuster as the most sacrosanct.
Article 1 power of the purse, oversight, and war? Nah.
Emoluments clauses? Bribery prohibition? Meh.
Criminal law? 14A? Doesn’t count.
But maybe the Senate changes a rule it has multiple times before? Gasp! Not that. Anything but that.

Exactly. The worst example of this is Rod Dreher bragging about chumming around with JD Vance and Viktor Orbán while also decrying the spread of groyperism among gen z conservatives.
It is particularly head scratching to read his insistence that “President Trump’s agenda” (see thread) is something distinct from this movement, and not the epitome of the post-liberal project he claims to despise.
Like yes, this has happened, but a big reason it happened is because of MAGA.

I don’t have a whole lot of advice for people younger than me but the earlier in life you stop worrying about what other people will think and just wholeheartedly enjoy the stuff you like the happier you’ll be
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:
One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing
And then you'll say. Wait a second.
Fuck 'em

We will not back any Senate primary candidate unless they call for Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.
If you’re as pissed as we are, join this campaign to rebuild the Democratic Party. 👇

We've had enough with corporate donor backed Democrats. It's time to elect a Senator from Colorado who will actually fight for the working class.

You can only play the “we need to all move on and get along and not criticize each other” card when you are actually working together on a united front moving in the direction the voters support.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

I'm worried about both equally TBH: Facebook is radicalising older, normal people en masse.
Twitter radicalising elites who are hyper engaged.
Both feeding each other in poisioning the discourse and media ecosystem. It's brutal and a pretty nasty feedback loop.

Fell down a facebook rabbit hole thanks to something a family member shared. Labour should be really concerned, the tone and circulation of posts now has a simialr feel to Conservatives in 2023 but with an added side of far right memes. Facebook worries me far more than X

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".
But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

People vote for Democrats rn because they want them to address the Nazi problem in this country and directly challenge fascist policies and politicians.
If you only use opposition (rhetorically or legislatively) as a manipulative tool to win the next election your voters will lose all trust in you.

I like Neguse but I keep circling back to this and I definitely feel like we were lied to for 6 weeks and today is Pinocchio Day on the hill.
Seems to me that this cave was their whole plan from the start but first they delayed for No Kings and then the election (just like the GOP senators said).

So Joe Neguse was saying this was the plan way back in the first week of the shutdown, with the goal of reopening the government within a couple weeks.
Which means either they changed their minds for a while re: tactics or the back room discussions to even set this up were not going super well.

If you're going to rely on "strong assurances" from Republicans then you're stupid and weak and you should resign.
There is only one path to getting Democratic assistance with anything: the House reopens, swears in Adelita Grijalva, then passes an acceptable budget.

I feel like we're in a weird world where the average Dem partisan, engaged voter is better informed than most of their representatives
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous
