The two child limit is and will stay popular with the public. It jars a sense of “fairness”: if I have to assess my finances before having kids, why shouldn’t you? But people get sick, sacked, and contraception fails. Crucially, fairness isn’t always what matters. Whether a child goes hungry does.

As we saw with nurses trying to find some respite from the relentless horror they were subjected by to during the pandemic by dancing on tiktok, the right wing press love to try and get people absolutely furious at the idea of people enjoying themselves. Especially when times are hard.
There is so much messed up about this front page Express story today.

There's no suggestion or evidence ANY alcohol or drugs was consumed. This is literally just people dancing.

And buried in the piece: "The footage is believed to have been filmed just before Labour took power in July last year."

It's real, and it's mind-blowing.

A complete lack of awareness and a national embarrassment.
Just some British patriots in Benidorm, taking over a street in Spain to shout in their own language about unwanted foreigners. It’s a blessing that they are too thick to understand irony.

either

or
- it's aware of the precedents, and thinks, yeah, we'll have some of that.

This as not simply populism, it's an extreme assault on public institutions and structures. The last week has been about the BBC, but comes alongside mounting attacks on judicial independence/the European Court of Human Rights. Treating each issue in isolation will see them killed off one by one.
What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

If you really wanted to reduce crime you would do it by eradicating poverty, not by building prisons and hiring cops
