Meanwhile, I see some of your dolts on this app warming up to the idea of a Pritzker presidency
“Everyone who is rich enough or close enough to reactionary politics is effectively in a cult with beliefs loonier than the median Heaven’s Gate member” is a relatively straightforward description of the current moment. I don’t know how we live like this

I know we all hate this administration, but my children have chronic illnesses and they have 3 annual exams: one with their pediatrician, one with their Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor, and one with their Pulmonologist (breathing doctor).

Trump is a geriatric patient and def has more than one doctor

That’s because it’s called LITERATURE not CLITERATURE.

Is that anything?
Day 4, literature: thanks to BBC for mentioning this after a man from central Europe is announced:

’The Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded 118 times since it began in 1901 but only 18 women have won.’

Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai wins Nobel Prize for Literature
He was recognised “for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art”.

a lot of people are finally waking up to the importance of the 3rd amendment. As a 3A absolutist, i think it should be illegal for soldiers to be quartered anywhere in this country. they should be camping under the open sky at all times. all military bases and barracks are unconstitutional.

it should be a tell about what's happening in the media now that most mainstream commentators seem openly frustrated that polling does not blame democrats for the shutdown

“Compared to a guy who plagiarized SparksNotes’ Moby Dick analysis and the middle class suburban kid in blue collar-drag, the coolest man you’ve ever heard of seems deeply uncool.”

Sure, Fasman. Whatever you say.
Compared to Dylan and Springsteen, country-music legend Johnny Cash can seem deeply uncool. It took time for me to appreciate his profound, plainspoken strength, writes Jon Fasman.

after the 10th radioactive shrimp recall in 7 weeks, i decided to do some digging

little did i know it would lead me to an underreported industrial accident that may have released an airborne plume of radioactive debris over swaths of indonesia

What Is Really Going on With All This Radioactive Shrimp? - Consumer Reports
Here’s the latest on how shrimp and spices got contaminated with cesium-137, how the FDA has responded, and why consumers should not panic.

This is the most handwringing centrist nonsense I’ve read.

A quote from one of the sources in the article, former VA secretary David Shulkin:

“The vast majority of veterans are trying to follow the rules, but the process leads to ambiguity and concern.”

Yet the article acts as if it’s widespread
EXCLUSIVE: Veterans are swamping the VA with dubious disability claims, including cases of fraud totaling tens of millions of dollars. 100% disability is now the most common rating.

our first story in our series on the VA’s disability program, with Craig Whitlock and Lisa Rein:

How some veterans exploit $193 billion VA program, due to lax controls
The Department of Veterans Affairs spends billions on dubious and even fraudulent disabilities benefits. Meanwhile, some deserving cases wait.

The number of parents who gasped when we told them no, we could not tell them what their kids checked out because their kids have a right to privacy!

We offered “one book cards” to kids whose parents wouldn’t agree to let them have a card. They could take out a book at a time. The FURY.
My feelings about Banned Books Week are that no indeedy parents do NOT have the right to decide what their own children read, because children are human beings with the right to dignity and privacy.

Agreeing w the parents rights premise shifts the Overton window in the wrong ass direction.

If and when America finds a way out of authoritarianism, not only will ICE have to be abolished: All these people will need to be held accountable in a court of law for the monstrosities they are committing - those who are ordering them as well as those who are carrying them out.

Every single one.

It’s been repulsive how The NY Times has been fearmongering around Mamdani, but to then take the extra step to smear Portland as a means of doing it while that city is facing a fascist invasion is another thing entirely.

I hope people are starting to see it’s the capitalists versus the rest of us.

ICE has held him under 24/7 guard at a hospital, registering him under a pseudonym, for *37 days* without telling him why.

A judge has ordered his immediate release.

Why are we letting Larry Ellison’s daughter Megan and her companies Annapurna Pictures/Interactive/Animation/Theatre/Television off the hook here? She has 4 Oscar noms, 5 Golden Globe noms, and won a Tony.

Hell, the PGA gave her a “Visionary” award, which tells me someone thinks she’s influential.
This billionaire Trump ally and his son are building an unprecedented media empire
Larry and David Ellison’s holdings span movies, TV networks, CBS and soon a stake in TikTok, in a paradigm-shifting portfolio with huge influence.

Val and I checked repeatedly because we simply couldn't believe no national or local news organizations covered this letter from 18 AGs in support of trans youth care and against FTC overreach.

If you find any stories, let us know, but it seems to be our exclusive.
On Friday 18 blue state attorneys general BLASTED the Federal Trade Commission, telling it to back off trans youth healthcare and warning of an insidious attempt to reshape the regulation of medicine in the US.

And nobody covered it.

I’ve played a LOT of 4X strategy games and I was reading about the generals and admirals meeting and specifically Trump’s comments that changing the DOD to the Department of War would stop future conflicts. Here’s how I, a dummy, would react in Civilization if I got these event notifications:

I realized today that Pete Hegseth is a guy who thinks of war in terms of movies like 300 and he was talking to a room full of people who think about Napoleonic era miniatures wargames and I don’t think Hegseth has any idea.

"Ian" is harvesting brussel sprouts in Salinas, CA. Part of it is done w/a machine, but a crew of workers needs to cut off the stalks in the field, while another worker cut off the leaves as he feeds the stalks into the machine. It's tiring work especially in the heat. #WeFeedYou
