If you are celebrating the fact that (whether they leave or not) Minnesota made these shitheads take a big public L, there is no better way to thank them than by reaching out to help repair everything they have sacrificed to do so.
thanks to all of you, we paid four more families rent today.

These accounts are indistinguishable from what happened in early concentration camps of other regimes, where many people died of malnutrition or diseases. This is the time to stop these. Right now. Because we know what is next.
Some children in Dilley were so distraught they cut themselves or talked about suicide, parents told ProPublica.

They said kids lost their appetites after finding worms and mold on their food, had trouble sleeping, and were constantly sick.
The Kids Trump Sent to ICE’s Dilley Detention Center
ProPublica went inside the immigrant detention center for families in Dilley, Texas. Children held there told us about the anguish of being ripped from their lives in the United States and the fear of...

James Van der Beek, one of the most iconic TV actors of his generation, had to sell the mementos from his career just to pay for his cancer treatment.

His death is a tragedy and a shameful indictment of our broken, cruel "healthcare" system.

Notice how the popular media narrative has moved on, while people on the ground in Minneapolis are still struggling and crying out that things are as bad as ever. This is how fascist regimes operate — overreach, recalibration, normalization. Get louder, not quieter.

What I appreciate from Wired though, and what sets it apart ethically, is that they just don’t tell a vague story about expansion but explicitly list out the locations to help the people preparing to resist this state violence. It’s very courageous.

I used to admin a huge Facebook page for children's librarians. I went viral for advocating that libraries support BLM. I published an oped that often gets taught in library school about how libraries aren't neutral. I published it because I saw so many kids libs+ admin carrying water for fascism.

This is why I push back on calling library workers the last stand for democracy or superheroes. We're not. Many are so committed to "neutrality" that they'll let fascism go unchecked. And there are more of these people than you think.
"condemning ICE raids is, at most, tangentially related to libraries"

Are you fucking kidding me right now

ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

Remember that one time I wrote a book about two ridiculous married people who couldn't figure out how to be together or stay apart, or have a conversation?

It's on sale right now for 2.99, all month.

Do you ever just think about how Trayvon Martin should have turned 31 yesterday and no one ever got held fucking accountable that he didn't?

I do.

If you have a network with a decently large following, please consider adopting a Minneapolis family to pay their rent this month.

This is being done in a decentralized fashion because a lot of the groups getting $ are having their Venmo frozen and it's hard to send mutual aid.
tomorrow i would really like to challenge a few folks with larger followings than me to adopt a rent and raise it in one day.

my little group chat and my followers have paid like 70 families rents in the past four days. i believe that some of y’all could help us keep one family housed.
today's report:

our "adopt a rent" venmo campaign paid 43 families rents who were at risk of evictions, including several moms of 4+ children

this is the way to get rent paid fast. like. 1000x better than any other way.

This is so hopeful to me because Surprise has not historically been like,a hotbed of liberalism.

Fuck yeah AZ.
The overflow room at the Surprise City Council meeting has also filled up (it has a 500 person capacity). I can’t tell how many are still outside but we can hear them chanting “ICE out” in here so it seems like quite a lot.

The targeting of Native Americans by ICE is so widespread, tribal governments all over are responding. To protect tribal citizens from ICE raids, tribes are holding events to help citizens get updated IDs and even speeding up the printing and processing times.

Facts that bear repeating.

There's been a culture of tolerating & enabling terrible behavior bc of 'artistic genius' for far too long
It's also the basis for denying opportunities to people who have remarkable talent & aren't terrible people - money/support/publicity/contracts are not infinite resources
"wait now you want to get rid of ALL the abusive & monstrous people???" Yes. Yes we do. There are more good people than bad in every industry, whole scads of people who'd never in their wildest dreams think of being systematically horrible & ask to be rewarded for it. Wild but true!
After the Spacey allegations came to light, a gross industry male asked me “jeez, who’s gonna be left?”

I was like - how about AN ENTIRE INDUSTRY FULL OF TALENTED - NON ASSHOLISH - PEOPLE WILLING TO DO THE WORK…?

There are plenty of good things made by good people with more on the way.
