“We can’t all be expected to bike.”

Fair. But that’s not the point.

“Not everyone can or wants to bike. But some people can & do—and they deserve a safe, efficient, affordable way to move through the city. It’s about freedom of choice.”

This & other useful comebacks, in @momentummag.bsky.social.

spend a little time exploring downtown flipping between the 2007 & 2024 layers, it's wild. downtown was a wasteland of asphalt, now there's the cultural trail, us rapid transit, and one of the most lively mid-sized city CBDs you can find.

If forced, our baristas will strike in dozens of cities on November 13 – the company's busiest sales day of the year.

Despite the predictions that BRT and bike lanes would cause a traffic apocalypse- Indianapolis drivers have seen commute times drop, because more drivers are choosing to bike and take transit, which reduces congestion.
Very succinct summary of the Law of Induced Traffic:

"Reality check: Expanding a highway doesn't necessarily reduce traffic delays, researchers have found. Instead, more drivers show up to try to take advantage of the increased supply of roadway, and the traffic problem continues."
We're spending more time stuck in traffic than ever
The average U.S. car commuter is spending a record 63 hours annually stuck in traffic.

Transit agencies take so much heat for being “inefficient” while State DOTs have largely escaped scrutiny for continuously lighting money on fire.
US highway spending is a mess.

Yale prof @zliscow.bsky.social & colleagues found that South Carolina’s DOT spends $375,500 repaving a mile of highway – more than twice as much as North Carolina.

In @bloomberg.com, I spoke with Liscow about the wild inefficiencies of state DOTs.

Also, everyone should have to commute by bicycle for 6 months every 4 years, if viable. It makes a fucking HUGE difference to your perception of road safety both as a cyclist and a driver.
It's a pretty popular opinion that everyone should have to work a shitty customer service/retail job when they're young so they know what it's like to deal with an awful customer, but I also think everyone should have to work in a kitchen to learn about kitchen hazards and food hygiene.

There’s a widespread myth that Americans hate traffic cameras. It’s simply not true.

On the contrary, researchers have consistently found that Americans broadly support using automatic enforcement to curb crashes. And for good reason: It works.
