Rivalries for good: why I love women’s sports 🥹

LET’S GO SPIRT
The delegations from Washington DC and NJ/NY have come to an agreement:
HERE YE HERE YE

A wager has been set by representatives of supporters of NJ/NY Gotham FC and Washington Spirit regarding the outcome of the 2025 NWSL Final:

If Gotham wins, Spirit supporters donate $200 to the Ali Forney Center

If Spirit win, Gotham supporters donate $200 to SMYAL

It’s not a sequel, it’s act ii.

And the film takes a dark turn because it’s an adapted screenplay from a story that takes a dark turn.
The “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu knows that the film’s sequel is a major shift in tone. But the plan was always for audiences to “absorb the fairy tale so it could shatter in front of us."

His conversation with @shirklesxp.bsky.social:
Why the Sequel to Last Year’s Brightest Film Took a Dark Turn
The director of “Wicked” knows he took a big swing with its sequel.

Jim Jordan begged someone to not rat out the sexual assault that was happening at Ohio State. He was crying on the phone. Groveling. This man threw out all his dignity to try and cover for horrifying crimes of sexual abuse. Think about that for a moment.

This is a very good piece that lays out clearly and bluntly why Nuzzi's career in journalism is an embarrassment to the profession but also doesn't dehumanize Nuzzi or rely on misogyny to criticize her.

Here's the key: MBS rules Saudi with an iron fist, suppressing dissent and hacking reporters to death whose questions he does not like. Trump, not to be outdone, wants to show an authoritarian ruler that he can compete too.
Calling the ABC reporter’s question “insubordinate” explains everything about how Trump sees press freedom.
Q: Why wait for Congress to release the Epstein files? Why not just do it now?

TRUMP: It's not the question that I mind. It's your attitude. I think you're a terrible reporter. It's the way you ask these questions. You start off with a man who's highly respected asking him an insubordinate question

So proud of the incredible work by my

The second paragraph of every article about Trump freeing House Republicans to vote to release the Epstein files should make it clear that he could order them released himself and chooses not to.

It has taken a while, but it seems based on last night’s post by Trump that Bondi now has the Epstein files sufficiently scrubbed for release.

This is an important new line being crossed. Trump isn't just pardoning the act of attempting to overthrow the government on January 6: he's pardoning *those people* for committing crimes generally. He may be creating a group of (federally) legally untouchable people.

Important to understand that sexual violence is political violence, enacted specifically to enforce class, race, and, yes, gender hierarchies.
I sometimes feel like they don’t want to end poverty or reduce inequality because they believe they’re entitled to a class of people they can prey upon

As if you needed anymore proof that we're living under the most corrupt administration in American history:
“The Department of Homeland Security spent $220M but has kept at least one beneficiary of the nine-figure ad deal a secret, records and interviews show: a Republican consulting firm with long-standing personal and business ties to Kristi Noem and her senior aides at DHS.”
Firm Tied to Kristi Noem Secretly Got Money From $220 Million DHS Ad Contracts
The company is run by the husband of Noem’s chief DHS spokesperson and has personal and business ties to Noem and her aides. DHS invoked the “emergency” at the border to skirt competitive bidding rule...

For years they droned on about “the Deep State” - a powerful cabal that controlled everything.

Then they set their sights on “the Epstein list” - a powerful cabal that preyed on children.

(Spoiler: it’s the same cabal)

Now they’re in power, guess who is protecting this cabal?

They are.

Odd.

these epstein emails are pretty damning. i sure hope that we haven't spent the last couple years in a cultural backslide where men are seemingly allowed to openly and gleefully fantasize about dominating young women without any threat of reproach

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Not for nothing, but I still think the president admitting on 60 Minutes that he has no idea who the hell he's pardoning should be the biggest story in America today.

And yet... the media has barely covered it.
