Winter sport needs snow-not fossil fuels

Eni, one of the world’s biggest oil and gas corporations, is using the Winter Olympics to greenwash its fossil-fuelled destruction

We moved in the Senate for the Albanese government to withdraw the invitation to Israel’s President Herzog to visit Australia. He has literally signed bombs used in the genocide in Gaza. Labor, the Liberals and One Nation joined together to vote it down. That tells you everything

Woman found outside Perth house with life-threatening injuries
A 44-year-old woman is rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after allegedly being assaulted at a home in suburban Perth overnight.

Excellent to see one of our parliamentary representatives still thinks international humanitarian law should be upheld
The Government’s invitation for President Herzog to visit must be rescinded - it will cause immense distress to many who have lost relatives in Gaza. This is a time to build social cohesion not blow it out of the water ! 💦

Is anyone surprised?

“There was no statement from Sussan Ley. No lectern‑thumping outrage. No accusations that this was the prime minister’s fault. No ex-prime ministers outraged at the rise of hate directed at Aboriginal peoples. There was just mute indifference…”

Opinion | Had an Aboriginal protester been accused of violence toward a mainstream civic crowd, the country would have erupted, @mrdtjames.bsky.social writes.
The muted response to the Perth bombing exposes a pattern of national indifference

How about “misogyny and male entitlement sparked killing spree”?
#royalcommissionintomaleviolenceagainstwomen
Tabloid shitrags have always been deliberately terrible at reporting anything respectfully, particularly sexual assault. It’s one of the reasons we have a femicide crisis in Oz.

Cases like these should be dealt with by court reporters, not sensationalist hacks who hate women.

#AusPol #Enough
Australia is suffering from a femicide crisis. Media outlets carry a responsibility to centre the victims, avoid blame shifting, and report the killings of women and children with care and restraint. When they fail to do that, they stop informing the public and start compounding the harm.

Please let’s have this. The proceeds should go to flood and bushfire recovery, which are being massively amplified by fossil fuels
“longtime Labor adviser Ross Garnaut and former consumer watchdog chair Rod Sims, and supported by ex-Treasury head Ken Henry – makes a case for the introduction of a “polluter pays levy” on companies that extract or import fossil fuels consumed in Australia.” www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The Invasion Day rally in Boorloo/Perth was targeted and attacked with an explosive device.

The silence from the right has been deafening.

The same politicians who have spent the last month politicising violence are now nowhere to be found.

I have to say the terrible heat and fire/ floods are also brought to us by decades of ordinary Australians NOT voting for serious climate action. It’s Time to change that. Do not give your vote to ANYONE who is not trying to save the planet as their top priority
If like me, you are afraid, anxious, and concerned about the incredible and almost unbelievable heat across Australia, be sure to remember that this is brought to you by endless government ineptitude, fossil fuel company greed and media complicity.

I’m so fucking furious.

Under the Genocide convention, Australia has obligations to punish persons in our territory who have committed genocide, incited genocide, or been complicit in genocide
It will be interesting to see how Australian authorities manage to ignore this.
Legal groups says Australia obliged to investigate Israel's President Herzog for his role in genocidal war on Gaza.

And yet, as Australia burns and bakes and floods, the party of government continues to approve new coal mines, the party of opposition plans to resile from Paris commitments to net zero, and the population mostly shrugs and says they’re not interested in politics
While Australian heatwaves were some of the very first extreme events attributed to climate change, people still underestimate how much worse they got - killing more people than all other natural hazards combined. New @wwattribution.bsky.social study. www.worldweatherattribution.org/climate-chan...
