Leader of the Australian Greens and Senator for Queensland 💚
Greens spokesperson on Women & Democracy. She/her. Authorised by L. Waters, The Greens, Brisbane.
I have written to the Ministers ahead of today’s Women’s Safety meeting: stop the murders with funding, not more talk.

We need immediate, funded action on housing, policing, alcohol and gambling, and national data.

All my love and solidarity to the Lakemba Muslim community today after they received another security threat yesterday.

Islamophobia has no place in our society, and especially not our political discourse.
February 18, 2026 at 9:46 PM
Today Pauline Hanson is attacking Muslims while defending tax breaks like the Capital Gains Tax discount: a policy that overwhelmingly benefits the top 1% and does nothing for people struggling with rent or trying to buy their first home.

More funding to Stolen Generations survivors for support, reunification & healing is welcome - and much needed.

But the number of First Nations kids in out-of-home care has more than doubled since an Apology that should have meant “never again”.

Today, under the cover of the Liberals tearing each other down, Labor has approved another coal mine extension.

Extending Middlemount to 2044 means Labor has now approved 35 fossil fuel projects.

In the middle of the climate crisis, they're approving more coal & gas.

Closing the Gap has stalled with only 4 of 19 targets on track.

The Greens urge Labor to show ambition and courage to deliver real outcomes for First Nations justice.

Incremental change won't close the gap by 2031 like Labor promised.

The footage out of Sydney overnight is abhorrent.

Peaceful protesters set upon by an army of police, punches thrown at people with raised hands, people praying ripped from their knees.

Is this violence the social cohesion that Labor wanted?

Vale Jon Kudelka - a brilliant artist who knew the power of comedy in holding truth to power, and effecting change.

His work showed a genuine and profound love for people and nature - often funny, often heartbreaking, but always incisive.

Australia has lost a great today.
February 9, 2026 at 3:19 AM
Finally.

This violent act targeting First Nations people on Invasion Day should have been investigated as terrorism and treated with the seriousness it deserved from the day it happened.

The housing crisis is fuelling inflation.

And Labor is making the problem worse.

The dollars they’ve thrown at first home buyers are a drop in the ocean compared to the $180 billion in tax breaks that flow to wealthy property investors.
February 5, 2026 at 1:12 AM
The CGT discount is the most unfair tax handout there is.

It is exacerbating inequality and locking a generation out of home ownership.

Enough is enough.

No more tinkering around the edges of the housing crisis. Labor must scrap the CGT discount in the next budget.
February 4, 2026 at 5:15 AM
The only winners out of today’s interest rate increase are the big banks.

And they don’t need the win. They’re already making 200k profit off the average mortgage!

This government is choosing to let ordinary people cop the pain, while corporate profits soar.
February 3, 2026 at 3:37 AM
Politics is about choices.

This government is choosing to spend more on tax breaks for landlords than on social housing, homelessness and rent assistance combined.

While you're getting smashed by unlimited rent increases and massive mortgage repayments.

The Invasion Day rally in Boorloo/Perth was targeted and attacked with an explosive device.

The silence from the right has been deafening.

The same politicians who have spent the last month politicising violence are now nowhere to be found.

Never again.

On Yom Hashoa / Holocaust Remembrance Day, we commemorate the victims and remember the tragedies of the Holocaust, wreaked upon Jewish people under the Nazi regime.

We must remember, so that we ensure it never happens again.
January 27, 2026 at 6:33 AM
Australia is the hottest place on Earth right now.

We’re paying the price while big coal, oil & gas corporations make billions destroying our climate and environment.

Billions in profit, billions in public subsidies, and yet many of these polluters pay less tax than a nurse or a teacher.
January 27, 2026 at 1:13 AM
Recognising 26 January as a day of invasion is not about division, but about respect, honesty and connection.

It is about acknowledging the truth that sovereignty was never ceded.

This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Last night, Labor and the Liberals teamed up to pass new dangerous and overreaching laws limiting speech and political expression.

These rushed laws include many things to be concerned about, including deeply worrying implications for people’s ability to protest.
January 21, 2026 at 4:23 AM
Labor has dropped highly controversial hate speech laws but is still trying to get Coalition support for dangerous changes to the Migration Act and new powers for the Home Affairs Minister.

These changes are bad and the Greens stand with the community to oppose them.
January 18, 2026 at 11:52 PM
The Greens are ready to work with the government to pass gun laws next week.

The rest of the omnibus bill however needs too much reworking to meet community concerns.

We need to keep all people in the community safe from discrimination and hatred, but good laws don’t come from rushed work.
January 16, 2026 at 11:31 PM
The Greens have serious concerns about the proposed hate laws legislation, which we have shared with the government, and we will not support it in its current form.

We can’t combat hate if we don’t combat it for everyone.
January 15, 2026 at 4:31 AM
NSW’s firearm reforms should be the impetus for national action on gun control.

Falsely conflating those who peacefully march against violence in Gaza with the criminal actions of radicalised individuals is a dangerous path.

We will always defend the right to peaceful protest.
December 24, 2025 at 2:49 AM
In the wake of the Port Arthur tragedy, governments collectively took action. So too should we after Sunday’s horrific antisemitic mass shooting. This is about our common humanity, and it should be above politics.
December 16, 2025 at 4:44 AM
It’s now clear tonight’s brutal gun violence was targeting the Jewish community, families gathering to celebrate the 1st night of Chanukah. This is reprehensible and intolerable.

My heart is with the Jewish community who are grieving loved ones, and feeling rocked and fearful.
December 14, 2025 at 12:16 PM
This year has seen the largest number of Aboriginal deaths in custody since records began in 1980.

This is a national shame and tragedy.

How many more First Nations people will die before the federal government acts?
