This result is a reminder to us all that better things are possible, we should expect more and together we can demand change!

Congratulations to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and New Yorkers who voted for a mayor who believes that the government’s job is to actually make people lives better.

Here’s Greens leader @larissawaters.bsky.social on This is Why We Can’t Have (More) Nice Things. Why is poverty deepening while privilege grows? Why does a nurse pay a higher proportion of tax than someone with $10m in a SMSF? Big biz and billionaires have built an echo chamber entrenching inequity.

Labor cannot continue to argue that the environment and climate are separate issues.

Without protection for the climate and our native forests, their proposed environmental reforms aren’t worth the paper they're printed on.

With the Greens, the government has the numbers in the Senate to pass progressive climate and environment reforms - reforms that would help us prevent climate collapse.

Without us, they must water down their laws to get the support of the Coalition.

Those who oppose this Treaty remain on the wrong side of history.

The rest of us can be proud to walk this new path forward.

We will work to ensure the Victorian Treaty endures, and for federal steps towards truth, treaty, justice and reparations for all First Nations peoples.

Federally, Labor's gone from supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart in full, to funding one part-timer to track what States & Territories are doing on truth-telling.

Truth-telling laid the path for Treaty legislation in Vic. We need to start walking that path too.

It’s deeply disrespectful that the Liberals have turned their backs on this history-making moment, and on the many Aboriginal Victorians who have been working tirelessly to get us to this Treaty.

Disrespectful, but unsurprising.

This is a moment that we can all be proud of.

Treaty invites us to walk with First Nations people on this incredible journey – to celebrate the oldest living cultures in the world, and to create a better future together.

First Nations lives depend on urgent action, led by community, backed by allies and funded by the government.

Labor must implement the Royal Commission recommendations, and fund First Nations-led Justice Reinvestment programs and legal services.

And they need to prioritise housing, education, healthcare, and community-based support over incarceration.
October 16, 2025 at 6:02 AM
Overrepresentation of First Nations people in the prison system is a result of systemic racism and over-policing.

Rising incarceration inequities in NSW and Qld show not enough is being done to close the gap – it’s a moral and policy failure.

More than 580 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have died in custody since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, yet many of the recommendations have still not been implemented.

And people continue to die.

Coal and gas corporations are boosting their profits - making investors millions, while killing the climate and costing you a fortune.

In 2024, Adani paid $0 corporate tax. You paid more tax on your last grocery shop than a coal corporation paid on $1.27 billion.

It’s a rort!
