The main problem in the UK is that refugees are stuck in hotels and cannot work or contribute to society due to how slow/inefficient/incompetent the home office is…this idiotic and offensive suggestion would just make this situation permanent.
We have to reject this insult to decency and humanity!
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Trump & his entourage know that they'll spend the rest of their lives in jail if they ever relinquish power. So they won't. It's only difficult to understand if you don't want to understand it - for instance because understanding it makes you feel as helpless as I am feeling about all this.

Honestly feel like Labour on immigration is a political and moral crisis with potentially scary consequences
Worth saying that despite asking for more than 12 hours we’ve had nothing back from Labour on this
A Conservative MP tipped as a future party leader has been condemned for saying large numbers of legally settled families must be deported, in order to ensure the UK is mostly “culturally coherent”.

This bill will rip down more or less everything: almost all the nature protections that generations in this country have fought for. We're a nation of nature lovers, and that interest is meant to be represented by the big groups. But, yet again, they fail to fight for our species and ecosystems.

In fact this *understates* the point here.

Tory policy is not (just) to remove benefits but to remove ILR and deport, exactly like the Farage plan the PM correctly described as racist.
“Another part of the plan would limit benefits to people with UK citizenship, removing it even from those who have been in the country for years or even decades and have indefinite leave to remain”

If this is not xenophobia then I don’t know what is.
Sickening.

Tbh, the whole anti-migrant rhetoric is already making my friends on ILR look at moving.

Of course, they’re all the ones with the money and talent *to* move. Which isn’t what politicians are selling as the consequence of ILR-bashing. But it’s what will happen.
The 10 year wait for Indefinite Leave to Remain will make the UK very unattractive for high skilled workers who often have alternatives. 2019 data (excluding the NHS and universities) shows that high skilled workers on visas are heavily concentrated in multinationals who can move jobs abroad (5/x)

The AfD qualified for three mayoral run-offs in cities in North Rhine-Westphalia today, and lost all by big margins. The lesson is not that we have overdone the AfD's rise, but that we do perhaps sometimes underestimate the counter-mobilisation effects - including in east Germany, incidentally.
