Wouldn’t it be interesting if Florida’s official state tourism agency found out exactly what people thought about their brand new concentration camp? (I made a thing - feel free to copy and share)

For today’s #AltPride post, we remember the 49 people murdered at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, 9 years ago today. They were murdered for being LGBTQIA+. This is why Pride is necessary. All they wanted to do was dance. Until we are free to do that without fear, Pride will continue to be needed. 💔

1. Florida banned cities from lighting up bridges rainbow colors for Pride.

So the people of Jacksonville did it themselves using flashlights and gels.

They opened the drawbridge to block them.

So they marched to a different bridge.

Just tested positive for Covid. And then 2 minutes later got the notification from Kobo that Queer Devotion by @thewordwitch.bsky.social is available for me to read. Is it wrong I’m a little happy that my reading of this text won’t be interrupted by having to work?

My heart is still full from the Queer Devotion class I took with @thewordwitch.bsky.social! Any residual doubts about my non-binary nature were obliterated by the strong body resonance I felt to Goddex (sp?). This must be how my fem witchy friends feel about the Goddess. I get it now. Thank you.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

Reminder: Black history offers many examples of fighting authoritarianism, so one doesn't always have to look to Europe. Nazi lawyers looked to Jim Crow for inspiration for their racist laws. Read as much about struggles against Jim Crow as you do about other examples of resisting authoritarianism
