Here's my 2025 Georgia candidate list! I've listed general election candidates for every municipality in the state with at least 2,000 people (as of the 2020 Census), and I'm working on smaller jurisdictions as well. Special elections are probably not comprehensive.

Checking in on this: the school board member who opposed the ban on trans athletes, and who was then challenged by the parent of the HS girl who'd complained, won reelection, 60 to 40%.
I'd totally missed this:

In Tumwater, WA, a HS student complained about a trans basketball player. Then, the local school board passed a resolution to ban trans girls from girl sports.

Now, the mother of that student is running against the sole school board member to vote against the resolution.

I stand in solidarity with the Starbucks workers on strike.

When a corporation can pay $96 million to its CEO for just four months of work, it can afford to pay its workers a living wage and decent benefits.

Something I wish got challenged more often in this “men in crisis” discourse is the blithe assumption (or sometimes outright assertion!) that everyone’s boss is a woman now. “Women now dominate white collar work and corporate management roles.” No they don’t. That just isn’t true.

So what happens when you get to the billionaires? Well, Bloomberg has a running list of the wealthiest people in the world.

The poorest of that 500-person list is almost two complete orbits of the globe away from poverty.

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue were really fortunate to complete our fundraising goal — the laid-off staffers at VIBE deserve the same support, as Black media outlets and journalists continue to be targeted and discriminated against in “austerity” measures

We are entering a phase when it will be very important to not hand it to Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: "I never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this, but here we are."

As his time in office steadily decreases, more and more people on the right will start trying to peel away Trump’s power. The vote on the Epstein files will be an accelerant to that process.

It’s wild that you can just openly bribe the President of the United States with chunks of gold to get
whatever you want, it’s fine, you don’t have to hide it, just say “I am bribing the President with gold,” zero consequences.

The elections last week proved that Trump's success in 2024 was best explained as a *dealignment* in politics, hastened by but not only due to inflation — but not a Trump *realignment*.
This week, polls showed POTUS slipping further w/ Gen Z and Latinos

One reason why elite schools (Columbia, Brown, Cornell) caving to Trump’s illegal impoundment and extortion is so galling — a betrayal, really — is that they would have won had they fought. By giving up, they guaranteed every other school will have to fight harder.

It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

but the thing they all have in common is that they are exercises in attempted dominance and he can't imagine any other way to relate to the world.

Metter, Georgia elected its first Black mayor, Rashida Daniel Taylor, last week with 51% of the vote, over two white men.

Metter is 39% Black and 47% white – by voter registration, 36% Black and 50% white – but the electorate last week was 30% Black and 64% white. Pretty striking for South Georgia.
