Huge turnout at the #NoKings rally in Hattiesburg, Missisisppi today, wrapping up and down both sides of the streets around City Hall.

I'd estimate that about 300 people showed up, along with 2 pro-Trump counter-protesters.

🧵 I'm heading towards one of the protest sites dotted around DC some distance away from the parade.

We're still some distance away, but immediately upon exiting the Metro, the long trail of protests is out and about with honking, supportive drivers passing by.

A survey of Senate Republicans by Scripps News revealed that at least 41 of the 53 Republicans in the upper chamber are skipping the parade. Trump's expensive, tanks-in-the-street birthday party isn't that popular.

Perhaps Newsom should have spent less time chumming around with authoritarian buffoons on his podcast and more time preparing and strategizing for the entirely predicable thing that is happening in his state right now.
Washington just took the reasonable step of not allowing the National Guard of other states to operate here without our agreement. It’s not the Guard personnel we are concerned about, it’s other governors in the Trump cult. katu.com/news/local/g...

this is excellent work & contains call/email templates at the end with callouts for the specific legislative mechanisms democratic senators could use to kill this part of the bill.

read the piece. make the calls. there’s no earthly reason any senator’s phone should stop ringing in the near future.

1. Defiance of a court order by sending migrants to Sudan without due process (despite clear DP decision SCOTUS) & Dist. CT. order.

Quote of the Day:

“We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful.

We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.”

John Yoo once wrote at length in an OLC memo about what size box it was legal to lock a suspected terrorist in (spoiler alert: very small) and for how long, and whether it was okay to put an insect in there with him.

So probably it's bad that they've lost him.
