The fundamental way a lot of people engage with politics is picking a side and trying to win, which is understandable because it’s the way politics are modeled and how people are encouraged to engage. But it’s then easy to forget that politics is supposed to be about making life better for everyone

NEW: Reporting from @thecity.nyc shows how ICE's outrageous new operation to re-arrest people attending check-ins as part of compliance with their release is undermining the rule of law.

One woman whose daughter-in-law was re-arrested says she's now too afraid to attend her court hearing.

Scenes like this were DIRECTLY caused by Stephen Miller's wailing that ICE can't arrest the number of people he promised they would arrest (bc he lied abt how many criminal aliens there are).
Dominican man thrown to the ground and arrested outside immigration courtroom just now, an activist, who is a US citizen was also taken away in the chaotic scene. A lawyer later tried to ask the remaining agents where the activist was taken. "you just arrested a US citizen which is illegal."

I hate how people talk about "polarization" as the problem this country is facing. Meaningless centrist euphemism. The problem is Nazification! Polarizing in a hard line opposed to Nazification is in fact the solution.

You can argue the merits of deporting Marcelo—a young man brought here at age 5—if you want to. But this is someone we should be proud to call American. He’s solid on every level. And if you’re really a Christian, you should be lifting him up, not casting him out.

It's two days later and he has no idea where his client is. She was detained on Wednesday morning at a check-in. She's not in the ICE Detainee Locator, and when he's called ICE they refuse to tell him where she is.
