the eurogamer arc raiders review made this the crux of their argument but it really got me thinking of how insanely boring and small-minded you have to be to rob yourself of the opportunity for a voice actor to really make an imprint on your game, community, and legacy

I will never use AI for my covers, editing, translation, or anything else. It is not only useless to me as an author, it is actively hostile and harms every skill related to book production.
If you're an author against AI used to generate writing, you better back everyone else in the chain too.

I applaud this review for threading a very difficult needle. It's always tricky whenever you reach beyond the thing on the page to critique the development story around it. This does a great job at not just stating "genAI bad," but making the case for why its use is actively at odds with the art.

An odd aspect of AI going everywhere is I am now much less tolerant of mistakes in stuff that uses it. Even though they could still be human error that previously I would have shrugged and went "oh well we all make wee mistakes" at, now I find myself going "well, that's what you get for using AI"
