Trump might last five minutes. The flights he was controlling, not quite so much.
The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

Well, I guess it’s the next best thing after calling the team itself a racial slur?
The billionaire owner of the Washington Commanders might name his new stadium after a man who just got mercilessly booed by his entire fan base because they despise him. Seems like a brilliant branding strategy.

I’m trying really hard to adjust for the facts that i. I have terrible political instincts, and ii. I get most of my analysis on U.S. politics from the admittedly very echo-chambery Bluesky, and I still can’t get anywhere on this re-opening deal except “what in the everloving fuck?”.

It's kind of remarkable how appealing they think Islam will be to Americans once they're more exposed to it.
Tuberville: “We just saw what happened in NY. We lost NY. It will be completely Muslim in 3-4 years. That’s what they want. And it’s going to spread throughout the country.”

I know some intuitively obvious things turn out to be false, so I’m all for hypothesis testing, but it still kind of blows my mind that “social norms affect behaviour” is a statement that requires citations.

I don’t know whether you can vote your way out of it or not, but it’s insane not to try. Even if you’re absolutely convinced that they’ll refuse to seat a Democratic Congress, making them actually go mask-off like that is more useful than just…not electing a Democratic Congress.
so, yes, at a basic level I think Tuesday showed that we can vote our way out of this

and so we have to be clearer than ever about making sure the people we vote in are willing to do what's necessary to rebuild - packing the court, adding states, etc.

or we'll find ourselves right back here

You know, my best read of his “just vote this once and you won’t have to vote any more” comments wasn’t that he was threatening to do away with elections, but that future elections wouldn’t matter because he wouldn’t be on the ballot, and the only things that matter are the ones that involve him.

Atticus posted this yesterday, but I’m sharing now in view of the acquittal.

The right to jury trial is more limited in Canada, but you have it for the big stuff, and it is an essential bulwark against the danger of government corruption.
One thing these cases show is the importance of the right to a trial by jury, inviolate. Trump can have people arrested but if a jury says “not guilty” there’s not a damn thing he can do about it.

It’s gratifying that the Supreme Court’s bullshit does not seem to have had a chilling effect on district judges’ courage. This stuff still matters even if the administration has a majority of SCOTUS in its pocket.
The Trump administration treated anti-ICE protestors worse because of the content of their speech, in violation of the First Amendment, Ellis says.
In fact, the president and Secretary Noem have said exactly that, Ellis says.

So in charging documents up here, whenever the use of a weapon is alleged, they particularize the weapon and then add “…or an imitation thereof” to protect against any argument that the weapon used wasn’t the weapon claimed. I’ve seen this result in wordings that appear to invite culinary debate…
