You see anyone acting the fuckin' fool on this matter - give 'em the facts and nothing else.

PS (added 2025)

example of 29 storey tower permitted in Dublin ..1 staircase (contrary to recommended safe standard of 2 stairs for firefighting & escape); 8 kitchens open directly to shared corridor (no internal lobbies); escape from bedrooms through kitchens; no possibility of ladder rescue

PS (2) no evidence that renters/purchasers actually want this, think about: noisier homes, corridors without daylight & more cooking smells, longer waits for lifts, longer walks to flats with shopping/children, higher service charges, more neighbour disputes, fewer amenities, etc
(*Yes & worse since)

PS (1) reg changes were not made to make housing more ‘affordable’ for buyers/renters; purpose was to make sites more ‘viable’ (profitable) for developers. Savings for lower standards are not passed on

but, the developers said the safeguards were too costly, so they were scaled back; regs are now issued that allow escape within 1.8m of a kitchen fire, & no sprinklers in 1-beds (up to 9m escape distance through a kitchen) 7/

Drivers are never not at it.

This guy was texting on his phone and managed to forget to turn. He ended up driving straight into the segregated cycle-lane.

But hey, remember folks, dress in head-to-toe HiViz when out walking or cycling.

All the hi-vis in the world isn't keeping me safe from people speeding, people on their phones and people not paying attention, red light breaking while they're driving.

Do better lads

The hubby was wearing high vis, bike lit up like an xmas tree a few hours ago. He was signalling right, had taken his road position to turn when an a**h*le in a big posh car overtook him too fast and too close anyway. Driver definitely saw. Just didn't give a crap about another human's safety.

A person rolled their car into my teenage son a fortnight ago. It was broad daylight and the driver was looking down while their car was rolling forward. I know, because I was yelling, trying to get their attention. Drivers who don't see us are often not looking.
My son hasn't cycled since

Well, if it’s dark - no. Bluntly, no.

High-visibility only works in light. At distance at night, it won’t even give as much warning as reflective materials, still less lights.

And that assumes the idiot drivers are even paying attention. One gets rather tired of the victim-blaming on the roads.

The population growth 'argument' is sheer bullshit.

Pre 1880s ireland had 8 million people.

We have space, what we don't have is inferstructure thanks to the lack of forward thinking and implantation of growth plans, for the country.

Thanks FF & FG.

You can't actually cap migration into Ireland without:

1. Dismantling the Common Travel Area
2. Leaving the EU
3. Placing a hard border between the Republic and the North

This "population growth" argument the self-declared sensible people have come up with is in reality really extreme

Despite a 16% jump in nitrates levels in Irish rivers in the last year alone, it's looking like the derogation (special dispensation to pollute more) will *still* be extended by another 3 years.

Help farmers financially if needs be, but killing our rivers is just WRONG.

Nitrates derogation could be extended by three years after proposal backed by European Commission
Too much nitrogen in a river can lead to an over-growth of algae, which causes damage to, and can even kill, wildlife and plants.
