We are a nation built on hard-won freedoms. But how dare you actually use them.
Rep. Roger Williams: "People need to quit demonstrating, quit yelling at law enforcement, challenging law enforcement, and begin to get civil."

All they had to say was, "There was a tragedy in Minnesota yesterday. Our prayers are with everyone involved. This is an emotional moment, and we ask all sides to remain peaceful while this incident is fully investigated." This is certainly mealymouthed, but it at least shows mature understanding.
JD Vance accuses the slain Renee Good of perpetrating "an attack on federal law enforcement, an attack on law and order, and attack on the American people"

"That woman was there to interfere with a legitimate law enforcement operation," he adds, repeatedly referring to her as "that woman"

A Republican elected official proudly declaring he has no problem with agents of the state shooting unarmed citizens in the face if they annoy the regime.

It is impossible to make democracy work with a party that not only tolerates people like this, but elevates them to positions of influence.
Rep. Randy Fine: "If you impede the actions of our law enforcement as they seek to repel foreign invaders from our country, you get what's coming to you. I do not feel bad for the woman that was involved."

JD Vance supports murdering American citizens. He's made that perfectly clear today. If he's willing to defend the murder of Renee Good, he would defend your murder, too.

We were stationed in Hawaii when I started public school. I strongly advise getting taught American history (or any history for that matter) by the descendants of colonized people.
KERNEN: Europeans are talking about it almost being like Vladimir Putin and Ukraine.

JEFF LANDRY: I disagree. When has the United States engaged in imperialism? Never. Europe has engaged in imperialism. The reason the Danish have Greenland is because of imperialism.

Anyone ever wonder if Mike's like this because he knows he's second in line to the throne so if something happens to the other two guys, he wants to be able to keep his options open?
Mike Johnson: "As Speaker of the House in charge of defending Article 1 powers, I'm just gonna insist to you that those have not been traversed in any way by what happened here. The president used his authority under the law."

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

It’s dispiriting to hear several of my otherwise reasonable friends rationalizing trump’s Venezuelan adventure because Maduro is a
bad person. True, but this process for removing bad people tends to lead to bad outcomes.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

One Halloween night in downtown Athens, Ga., I found myself at a urinal next to Michael Stipe.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

We’re looking at this the wrong way. We should tell Miller to “be the change he wants to see in the world” and go write that book and leave the rest of us the hell alone.
Who among us will ever forget where we were and what we were doing when we learned that undocumented migrants to the United States were taking all the atom-splitting jobs

What’s interesting is Missouri voters plainly told the Chiefs a couple years ago they weren’t paying to build them a new stadium. So the team is going to Kansas and lawmakers there aren’t giving voters a choice.
Breaking news: The Kansas City Chiefs have informed administrative officials that they will announce their move to Kansas today, according to sources who asked not to be named because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

MAGA constantly says TRUMP IS YOUR PRESIDENT, but he's really not. Being President for every American means biting your tongue sometimes, maybe a little Bi Partisanship every once in awhile, maybe not sending in the US military against us, little shit like that.

It's been shown over and over that voters like and support politicians who they feel are fighting for them, even if we feel the things they are fighting for are gross and bigoted. Being silent demonstrates only that you're not willing to take a stand.
"it speaks for itself" has never worked. so yes, we do need dem officeholders to create friction, generating content.
Why does Democratic leadership need to comment on it? Do you not know Trump's post was repulsive and inhuman without them telling you? The rule is you do not get in the way of your opponent ruining themselves.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

The authoritarian takover of the state bureaucracy might not *sound* like a big deal. But SCOTUS giving Trump the ability to fire the federal government is a God-King power, and represents a failure of the American Revolution.
