This is why autocrats and the Project 2025 neofascists hate scientists.

Because we are mediators of truth in a society. (h/t @volts.wtf for that phrase.)

We can push back on the lies of autocrats and oligarchs. That’s a big reason they’re attacking NIH and NSF.

Take this quote from South Carolina State Senator Cash, who truly believes his personal religious beliefs come before the medical needs and pro-choice will of the people he represents:

The International Criminal Court is ditching Microsoft Office, saying it’s too dependent on US tech, in favor of Open Desk, a German open source alternative.

The move comes after Microsoft revoked ICC head Karim Khan’s email access when he was sanctioned by the US for the warrant against Netanyahu.

The new novel "What Friends Are For" sheds light on the history of abortion in Canada. Harriet Zaidman's book is a “nuanced, important, and unfortunately timely novel set in 1983 at the height of Canada’s abortion debate, following a young girl grappling with an unplanned pregnancy.”

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

The nature of policing is to avoid accountability and responsibility. That is how it works, in the past, today, and in the future. (I’m not allowing responses because I don’t want to keep explaining. At this point if you tell me the police need to be more professional, I’ll just tap this.)

He should be a warning sign to the GOP today but too many of them are in the cult.
