This times a bersquillion. People need other people to hear them, understand them, believe them. Otherwise we may as well all be fridges connected intermittently to the internet for no apparent reason.
While I appreciate the aim of these efforts to use AI to simplify reporting of human rights breaches, I think it fundamentally misses the fact there is a psychological component to seeking justice: most victims want to be heard *by other people* www.justice.org.au/national-jus...

In a way, I find the authoritarian takeover of our media system even more disturbing than the authoritarian takeover of our political system.

Our political system has been failing basically my entire adult life. But, the media system provided accountability and sort of worked. Now it’s collapsing.

How did @propublica.org reporter @ericumansky.bsky.social learn that the Trump administration had just gone ahead and made it significantly harder for male vets with breast cancer to get coverage? This crucial info was not made public. Read his 🧵 for the details👇
One night recently, I got a Signal message

Would I be interested in seeing an internal Trump admin memo?

I said yes (duh). Then, I couldn’t believe what I was looking at.

The memo shows how the VA is making access to health coverage header for just one group:

Male vets w/ breast cancer….

They didn’t just NOT give Trump the Nobel Peace Prize, they wrote a citation that reads like an anti-Trump rallying cry.

(He’s gonna extra-tariff Norway now, isn’t he?)

I am so annoyed on behalf of the many bright people in science and medicine that have had to spend the day talking about paracetamol/acetaminophen and how it doesn’t cause autism. And I’m even more aggrieved for everyone with autism who is being subjected to the destructive ableist discourse.
