One of these stars shares my daughter’s name… which one do you think it is? 👀

This is Copelands Lost Galaxy (NGC4535) and represents a 5-hour total exposure (see equipment list in my bio) taken last May. It was first observed by William Herschel in 1785 and is about 55 million light years distant.

This is my next project. This is the Heart Nebula, nearby to the Soul Nebula which was my last project. This one is going to take a while. So far this is only 3 panels. I'm not sure how many panels it'll take to cover the whole thing. #astrophotography

At about 49 million light years from Earth, NGC 7331 and friends are wishing you all a great Thanksgiving. This was an 18 hour LRGB capture taken from my yard, under Bortle 5 skies in central MA using an 8” SCT at 1422mm focal length. Happy Thanksgiving! 🔭 #Astrophotography

Having evolved eight legs arranged as a wheel along with a gryoscope in their bums, the people of Tanstafl IV were mercilessly preyed upon by intergalactic shoe salesmen.
19th century wooden “walking” doll with a wheel of eight legs ~ when costumed, the doll’s long dress would cover most of the leg mechanism, allowing the doll to “walk” when moving, while appearing to have only two legs at any one time www.theriaults.com/events/listi...

When I was a young boy, I lived in Jakarta for a few years. That was fifty years ago at the start of this graph. I can't imagine four times the population density there. It must be so different now.

The California Nebula. It's around 5.5 hours taken with my ZWO 294MM camera and the new SVBONY dual narrowband 3nm filter. Color was added using my single emission line Ha and OIII filters (also around 5 hours each filter). #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

Yankee (laudatory) is a category that exists, but it's reserved for New Englanders with a ramrod-straight moral compass who would rather break the world than compromise. Exemplars are William Lloyd Garrison, John Brown and Pete Seeger.

The majority of books published lose money and the majority of authors do not earn out their advances if they were lucky enough to get one. If you do the math on an hourly wage, writing is frankly bonkers as any kind of career.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

I made F335M red because this is PAH, otherwise the entire image would be green.
