James Dobson is finally dead and I have been trying to besmirch his legacy for the past few years! If you want to understand how he targeted strategic developmental stages in childhood to create people ripe for authoritarian abuse, start here: strongwilled.substack.com/p/chapter-3-...
Chapter 3: The Beginnings of the Religious Authoritarian Parenting Movement
How the 1960s and social progress movements sparked a long-term backlash that continues on to the present day.

Everything is shit and fascism is here and we're not going to be saved; we have to fight it together. Go volunteer at a local food bank or library or something, joining existing networks will save you time and energy and show you how those connections look and feel if you need to rebuild them later

I stumbled on an old photo I took in my local park of a fairy crash site. It's not there any more - the log's rotted - but I think about that fairy often.

not interested in how much horsepower an engine has. only interested in how many horse powers. can it open a stall door with its lips. can it whiffle as it delicately takes a carrot from your palm. can it enchant eight year old girls the world over. CAN IT

Contrary to Trump’s grotesque, self-congratulatory press releases, he has not ended gender-affirming care for young people; rather, as the health care workers I spoke to this week made clear, hospital management, boards, and their legal advisers have ended it for him. My new story:
The Blue-State Hospitals Carrying Out Trump’s Anti-Trans Agenda
In states where gender-affirming care remains legal, some hospitals have nonetheless stopped providing it. What gives?

I think it's really worth noting that this concentration camp was opened one month and three days ago.

This woman saw enough horror in that time to quit and tell the public what she saw.

Which suggests that it's not as bad as we think, or as bad as we can envision from her description—it's worse.
A former “Alligator Alcatraz” worker says detainees are subject to “inhumane” conditions — packed by the hundreds into cages without sunlight, with overflowing toilets and limited access to showers.

In an exclusive report, NBC6 spoke with a former corrections officer who says she saw hundreds held in cages with no sunlight, backed up toilets and little access to showers.

show of hands who else feels like crying or possibly throwing up at the grocery store check-out these days?
New polling shows that 53% of Americans consider the price of groceries to be a major source of stress.

"why would mamas and dadas do that? if I break a rule, I just try again"

quite possibly have never felt like a better parent than this moment

years ago i met a woman studied the impact of corporeal punishment and never forgot what she said: “whenever i show parents the evidence against spanking they always ask ‘ok but what do studies say about the *benefits* of spanking?’ and they don’t believe me when i tell them there just aren’t any.”
