Fines are only punishment for poor people.

When a multi billion company is fined 500k, that’s like change they found on the ground. Even a million is like a random $1 found in a jacket.

If the fine doesn’t make the company almost bankrupt, it means the company can get away with anything.

Meta earns $3.5 billion every six months from showing Faceboon and Instagram users 15 billion “higher legal risk” scam ad impressions a day, internal documents state.

That haul vastly exceeds how much the company expects regulators
To fine it for running scam ads.

Shooting using Halide with Process Zero is so vastly better than the iPhone's overcooked default image processing that it's crazy. I've realized that the reason I haven't liked taking phone pics is mostly because of how wildly overboard phones go with image processing by default.

I've seen this statisticial pattern on other games, with Chinese speaking gamers representing a high proportion of negative reviews. As was the case in Silksong, the original translations were pretty bad. Having bad translations in your game gives a worse review score than none at all! #gamedev

The interconnection between themes & aesthetic, especially the art direction, is something he has emphasized in the live stage & interviews. Connecting the pollution with the abstract, unclean BGs is neat... and if CITY #05 wasn't enough of a hint, Ota loves coming up with new forms of expression

The flip side of this story is that cancer care facilities must have continuous-use respirator policies in place, along with high quality ventilation and air cleaning with HEPA units, and educate outpatients about COVID avoidance in the community - and the ones that don't are killing people.

The whole point of democracy is so one person's derangement does not become everybody's problem. It's social hygiene. The fact the richest men in the West are a mix of grotty twelve year olds and deranged apocalypse fanatics is a problem, and we should be honest about it.

Yes, 14,000 preventable deaths from negligently outdated guidance seems like a lot - but saving those lives might give the impression that infection control leaders got it wrong.

Is saving an enormous number of lives worth living in a world where well-connected VIPs can be embarrassed like that?

What daft asshole at Google thought enabling "AI" autodubbing by default was a good idea? Half the time I encounter it, the dubbing is trying to translate music lyrics and the rest of the time it just sounds incredibly bad while at the same time being completely inaccurate.

The error examined in this thread is laughably simple: forcing subjects to breathe through a small hole covered in N95 material does NOT mimic wearing an N95.

That's beyond wrong - it's *silly*.

It's also the source of mainstream medical claims that N95s interfere with breathing during pregnancy.
