As director/SB/AD, Kobashi understood the most accessible strengths of the production - boards that serve as vignettes for the world and solid representations of space are all you need to result in immersive beauty

What a wild swing from CITY to Denmoku. In the former, the stylized cels define the aesthetic that the backgrounds must follow, so the result is seamless simplicity. For the latter, painterly & abstract BGs have the leading voice, to the point of occasionally filtering character layers to match them
