BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

If the leader of your country can declare he's sending tanks into a major city to deal with non-violent protests against his own extrajudicial abductions by an unregulated and largely anonymous government paramilitary group, that's a fascist country that you have there. Sorry.

This idea is madness. Coming to you live from the Uncanny Valley!
In a country renowned for its storytelling, award-winning, world renowned authors, writers and poets, it’s bizarre and disturbing for them to share this so-called ‘charming’ AI-Guide rather than investing in a human being who could do the job a million times better.

Only in Ireland: I'm at a pub event; barman seeks owners of 2 cars blocking others in pub's strangely arranged carpark; 1 of them is mine (morto!); I go out & apologise to man whose car I unknowingly blocked; turns out we know each other from 20 years ago; big hugs, & we chat forever in the carpark

I first met @peter.petermorwood.com in 1996 at the first Discworld Convention - and many times since. He brought joy, laughter, Tobacco sauce, swords, cooking and a metric ton of stories into my life.

"Look, if I could brainwash your darling crotch goblins, I'd make them read the syllabus, turn in their assignments on time, and be absolutely allergic to GenAI." -- every professor everywhere.
Here's the secret of
"university indoctrination."
Professors aren't doing it.
Your little darlings are finally meeting a diverse group of people and realising that the stereotypes you've been feeding them are closed-minded garbage.

The Good Friday Agreement was signed 27 years ago today.

I'll always feel grateful to the people who made it happen - and tbh, even after all this time, am still quietly amazed almost to the point of disbelief that they prevailed.

A fundamentally human miracle; imperfect, resilient, generative.

Once I got the DIRTIEST look during a conference panel when a facilities manager asked me if technology gave me hope for the future. I said ramps are older than old and we still can’t get those put in, so no, it doesn’t.

Tech is only as good as the people doling it out.
I really need people to stop acting like technology is gonna solve disability.

I have a pretty technologically advanced wheelchair. It still doesn’t make my back not broken, and it sure as shit doesn’t make ableds build more ramps.

I befriended a crow. I'd put scraps of food out on the balcony and watch it eat.

After a while it started to bring gifts in return. Bottle caps, disposable lighters, that sort of thing, left on the table.

I accepted them.

But this morning it was waiting for me, holding a diamond ring.

Should I?

Good thread on how encrusting workers with rules to prevent "waste" causes a much larger amount of waste
because "paying 15$ to the european guy who made the free program irfanview" wasn't on our 2010 congressional budget, it couldn't be done. The accountant said it could maybe be put on the next-next budget, but they weren't sure it'd get approved.

This.
Amid the cynical hatemongering, I will continue to accept, respect and support LGBTQIA+ people. Everyone is entitled to the same civil and legal rights without question. I know who I am better than anyone else and I expect people to believe me. I extend that courtesy to others. It's not difficult.

Unfortunately, I can think of many, many times that I've been scared FOR trans people.

I once rang Hotel Doolin to ask them if I could use their loos for a group of just arrived Syrian families who were on a day trip across Clare and when we arrived they had muffins & hot chocolates ready for all the children and teas and coffees and scones for the adults ready in their barn.
The same company/family run Hotel Doolin and The Armada in Clare, they are the absolute real deal never missing a chance to support their communities whatever way they can: this from them this morning-

We have all been at funerals where the eulogy was given by the priest who clearly hadn’t a rashers about the person. A phoned in eulogy. A eulogy given by someone who loved the deceased injects the personality of the person into the funeral. @katiehannon.bsky.social #eulogy
