It was horrendous in every respect. I vividly recall an article from GamesMaster (a UK games magazine no longer in print) circa 2009-2010 about "weird" characters from mostly Japanese games.

Western games journalism was horrendously racist in that era, it cannot be overstated just how fucking racist it was. You could tune into G4 and have a solid shot of Sessler saying some kind of orientalist shit or see it in any game magazine of the time. It was gross
