Until this policy is withdrawn and replaced with a framework that respects trans people’s privacy, equality and dignity, we cannot recommend voluntary engagement with Police Scotland, whether as community partners, customers, or even witnesses.

The framing of transgender identity as a “complex debate” rather than a protected characteristic signals a worrying alignment with hostile narratives. Trans communities deserve safeguarding, not suspicion.

Bridget Phillipson is only marginally outside the top-5, at 6th, and she still lost the Deputy Leadership contest to a backbencher when it went to a membership vote.
