So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

I've reported on Flock for awhile now. Early on, people seemed indifferent about the cameras, saying what most people do about surveillance tech, "I'm not doing anything wrong, so who cares?" Now, the public opinion has shifted entirely. People hate the cameras.
Police from a town of 900 in Colorado accused a woman of theft. Based on their Flock cameras they told her, "you can’t get a breath of fresh air, in or out of that place, without us knowing, correct?" and reportedly told her the exact number of times her license plate had driven through that town.
Police used Flock cameras to accuse a Denver woman of package theft. She had her own evidence

Because banning social media for kids is not about protecting kids or making their lives better. It flies in the face of research, data, and what kids are telling us. It’s about controlling them, isolating them, and keeping them uninformed. It’s part of the fascist playbook.
having thought about this for three days, my current status is:

this makes me suspect that one of the routes that AI companies are aiming at is targeting young people. anything that existed when you were a kid feels normal and indispensable. especially if you always used AI to write all your essays for you. and to comfort you when your parents were arguing.
