In all seriousness, the "LLMs are people and you're racist if you don't like them" shit is the natural endpoint of a consumerist society in which consuming and fandom are the only modes of identity-building many people understand. Finally, a product no one can tell you not to love.

I feel like we should be honest with ourselves that a lot of centrist democrats are pinning election losses on trans rights because they are being explicitly paid by lobbyists to paper over the genocide of gaza
No, supporting trans rights doesn’t cost elections!

“43 percent of voters were more likely to vote for a candidate who stands up for transgender people. Just 21 percent of voters would be less likely to support a candidate who supports trans rights.”
No, supporting trans rights doesn’t cost elections
Opinion: Supporting protections for transgender people is not just necessary, it's crucial, argues LPAC's Rebecca Buckwalter-Poza.

This 1934 NYT article about a group of 75 Nazis in New Jersey getting the crap kicked out of them by 1000 “anti-Nazis” is no laughing matter and the writing is not highly entertaining.

Please do not laugh or smile while reading this as it is a very serious matter and violence is not funny.

Last night, a judge ordered recently-released Palestinian activist and former @columbiasipa.bsky.social student Mahmoud Khalil deported

Tonight at 6 at Busboys and Poets, I’ll be the first to speak with Khalil since the ruling.

We will talk about Columbia, cancellation, and free speech.

This story is not getting the attention it deserves in fact it should be so shocking that it took over the CK story at this point.

However, you would be hard pressed to find more than a couple people who even know what happened

I work in interlibrary loan in an academic setting, which means people send me requests for items they have citations for.... now that students are using AI slop to find resources/references, I get requests for Shit That Doesn't Exist
it's bad enough dealing with bad citations & academic telephone

I'm finally organizing all my old writing. I came across this beautiful critique note from my favorite writing mentor and seeing the line "doomed to academia" feels about right for how I've been thinking about going back to school again. Divorce is opening more doors than it closed.
