Also worth noting how much easier it is for cities like Amsterdam, Paris, and Barcelona to have better public transit since the cities are so much more compact. Our 5.5-mile Red Line Extension would be an entire crosstown line in Paris.
The entire cities of Amsterdam (red), Paris (blue), and Barcelona (purple) can fit inside Chicago.

All borders use the same geographic scale (1:175000). The European cities have been rotated and/or flipped, but not resized.

A tough one to sit with--but we must--is that some people's ability to make good art in part derived from, or was protected by, the fact that they were enabling or doing terrible things. See also: We Need to Talk about Cosby doc. Even more troubling on this score: Read deep reporting on Alice Munro
"actually his stuff was very Derivative and not Original" like, you don't have to do this. it is good for us all to sit with the cognitive dissonance that a very bad person can make very good art. it is good for us to work through the moral ramifications of that.

Just a reminder, the greatest living American historian filmmaker, Ken Burns, released a 720 min exploration of every facet of the American revolution using zero generative AI and paying for all of its assets instead of cobbling it from stolen data, then he gave it away for free on PBS this year.
First trailer for Darren Aranofsky's new AI animated series 'On This Day... 1776'

• Tells short narrative stories about the Revolutionary War

• Uses Gen AI tools, including tech made by Google DeepMind

• Has SAG voice actors

Somehow I missed that Turnip launched a "Board of Peace" last week, a blatant profiteering scheme in which he's chairman for life and countries have to pay him $1B for permanent membership.

The actual story is that a family of American citizens trying to evacuate from a neighborhood that ICE had made unsafe, and then ICE tossed munitions into the car, causing three kids to be hospitalized and a six month old to stop breathing. DHS called the family “radical agitators”

The end of the 🧵 I posted a couple moments ago. The only reason Trump has “god-like powers” is because congressional Republicans stopped 👏🏻 doing 👏🏻 their 👏🏻 jobs. Punish them at your polling place, up and down the ballot, wherever ever you can.
anyway i already see people with undiagnosed anxiety replying to this with lurid fantasies of trump's god like powers so i'll end it here
