I was joking yesterday when I wrote that Trump wants to send everyone cash-packed pickle jars to buy health insurance. Damned if he might not do just that.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Well, these images have done the viral circuit, and are now at the spot where people are accusing them of being AI.

Bummer to those folks: they are not AI. These are real photographs, made with my mirrorless cameras.

Media literacy sure is lost on so many people, it's quite sad.
Border Patrol agents posed at "The Bean" for an apparent photo op after a weekend of clashes in Little Village. blockclubchi.co/4oUHKae

The Man Who Lives Inside the Bean weeps. Those of us who live outside the Bean are disgusted.
Astonishing: Bovino and his agents showed up at the Bean this morning to pose for pictures. While Border Patrol snapped photos, one agent shouted, “Everyone say, ‘Little Village!’” The neighborhood where they are least welcome and most acutely felt. blockclubchicago.org/2025/11/10/b...
Border Patrol Agents Pose At 'The Bean' For Apparent Photo Op
The photo op came after agents tear-gassed a Little Village street and were spotted in the area numerous times. At the Bean, one agent shouted, "Everyone say, Little Village!"

Any cosmetic surgeons who willingly grant a patient's wish to have "Mar-A-Lago face" should have their licenses suspended. Let those people go to Mexico and back alley plastic surgeons in Miami for the mutilation. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Durbin needs to understand that this isn’t 1996. The Senate doesn’t work like this anymore.
Durbin said critics of his vote “need to understand how the Senate works”

Those colleagues on the other side are untrustworthy.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

I can’t believe 1) we got this much snow and 2) it stuck.

No worries. It will all be gone by Thursday. Let’s see Major Lockjaw and his goons navigate this.

Mamdani's win in New York means less than you think. Spanberger's win in Virginia means Democrats need to cave on the shutdown as soon as possible.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory once again.
in any case it is wild that voters just sent a huge message and a bunch of senate democrats are all, “it doesn’t look like anything to me”

I wished I read this *before* I ran into Ald. Lee at this afternoon's whistle/know your rights kit event at the Daley Library earlier. I would have asked why she opposes the head tax proposal.
A Sunday read — 26 members of the Chicago City Council signed a letter expressing concern about Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposal to tax wealthy corporations, making them pay their fair share.

Here’s a look at who’s for/against the proposal.

Emanuel killed it. Johnson wants it back. Chicago’s corporate head tax debate is about more than money • The TRiiBE
Proponents say former Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s removal of the corporate head tax left a hole in the city's budget that was never replaced; they want the rich to pay their fair share.

Durbin cannot leave office fast enough.
CALL ALL OF THEM. SAY PRIMARY.

"Sens. Jacky Rosen (Nev.), Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), Mark Kelly (Ariz.),Jon Ossoff (Ga.), Gary Peters (Mich.) &Dick Durbin (Ill.) were among the Democrats who participated in secretive negotiations to end the shutdown & are considered possible “yes” votes for the deal."
November 9, 2025 at 9:59 PM
I just called and emailed Senators Durbin and Duckworth to hold fast and vote "no," if this is true. The GOP's words, like Trump's, are worthless. Make them own responsibility for the shutdown.
“A promise of a vote on healthcare” is nothing

Find the consultants who are telling the Schumer bloc that this is a good idea, and cockpunch them.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

At this rate, the government won’t reopen because House Republicans can’t catch flights, then will blame Democrats.
Sean Duffy: "We have a number of people who want to get home for the holidays, they want to see their family. Listen, many of them are not going to be able to get on an airplane."

"This means that public conversations about race, segregation & diversity are still locked in the experiences of white people in Chicago."

That hit hard. (There is also an argument to be made about the inherent bias in CPS selective enrollment. But that is for another 🧵.)
Today I learned that Lincoln Park high school is about half the size of Lane Tech and has 40% more Black students than Lane does.

This came up in a conversation about how media coverage of Chicago's current political situation is still locked into some outdated ideas about race in this city.

Most local media outlets regularly run the police department's account of events as gospel, in spite of knowing that the police lie.

It would track that they would do the same with DHS.
Have now seen two stories from major local broadcast outlets in Chicago repeating a claim by DHS that shots were fired and paint cans/bricks were thrown today in Little Village, with the only "evidence" being a post from the agency on a nazi website. This is more than irresponsible.

From the Editorial Board: Fulton Market district — by most accounts the most economically vibrant neighborhood in Chicago and until very recently the hottest real estate market in town — has in the past two years stalled out in terms of growth.
