Retired principal engineer. Who is quite willing to bore you with how communication systems work. And old computer history, at least the parts I was involved in.

The exec that said "we thought it was farther along then it was" is absolutely the greatest issue right now. Not only is it not capable of doing any of these things on a broad scale, it will do them significantly worse than any employee. Going all in on something to boost stock value that fails.

DOJ briefly uploaded this letter from Jeff Epstein to serial child molester Larry Nassar:

"Our president shares our love of young, nubile girls. When a young beauty walked by he loved to 'grab snatch,' whereas we ended up snatching grub in the mess halls of the system."

The CISA's new director, hand-picked by Kristi Noem, asked to be "read in" to highly sensitive, compartmentalized intelligence shared with a select few people in the civilian agency by the NSA or CIA.

It was so sensitive that his predecessor had never asked to see the raw intel. 1/

I wish I had taken a picture half this good. I have watched Ospreys chase off Bald Eagles. But this…
As we get close to the end of the year I thought I'd repost some of my favorites.

These aren't in any particular order, but how could I not start with my absolute favorite of the Kingbird riding on the osprey while carrying a fish?

Former NSA employee (16 years) with a pro tip for you. Released controlled document on the left, Epstein on the right. See the difference?

In real redactions, some words, headers, and bits will almost always still be visible, but especially classification headers. These documents are UNCLASSIFIED

Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

college should, in the US, be free. college is not - nor has it ever been, despite the protestations of our trade school colleagues (business, engineering, etc.) and administrators - simply job training.

Some have argued to me strongly that even if Loeb is wrong, he’s getting people interested in 3I/ATLAS and that’s a good thing for science.

But Loeb isn't just wrong, he's recklessly following an old playbook that got 39 people killed in 1997.

AI has NO emotions. It has zero ability to acquire technical prowess. It cannot feel. It cannot inspire you to feel. It cannot breathe life into art.

It's a pattern-recognition plagiarism machine, hoping you'll think it's a real boy and not fucking Pinocchio. (This may be an insult to Pinocchio.)
I do not care what how much propaganda Silicon Valley tries to spread saying otherwise, a machine vomiting up slop is never ever going to be art to me the way an human being sitting and making something with their soul, knowledge and skill set is.
