Again, speed cameras make a lot of sense as a solution to police using traffic as a pretext for racist exploitation/violence. Issue is entrusting these systems to the police only reintroduces the very problems of the police in the first place.

Hell yeah. I have been saying this for years now. Malls are perfect to convert to living spaces. Live/work, mixed use, elder care with dignity, there’s so many great use cases for mall layouts.

BECAUSE IT WAS BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE PROGRESS IN AI WAS SLOWING DOWN.

GWU is investigating this student for her grad speech—

"I cannot celebrate my own graduation without a heavy heart knowing how many students in Palestine have been forced to stop their studies, expelled from their homes, and killed for simply remaining in the country of their ancestors."

This is Taylor’s best yet imo.

The time spent unpacking early 2020 is an excellent reminder of just what a more community focused nation might look like here in the US.
I went deep on the "somebody's got to do it" meme, what it says about the current state of our political system and culture, what led us here, and more!!!

New report: “BART’s focus on fare evasion recovers minimal revenue, may be addressing an overstated problem, and is not effective at curbing incidents that make riders feel uneasy in the system”

Last part will be an inconvenient truth for some carceral urbanists on here
Cracking down on fare jumpers didn’t make BART safer or increase revenue, report finds
The Center for Policing Equity partnered with BART to produce a report that's skeptical of the agency's claims.

Charlotte recently got DoorDash drone delivery and it’s starting around my house and let me tell you, these things fucking suck for a billion reasons. But wow, call me old, the noise is super annoying.

For anyone who needs some GOOD news, Nottoway Plantation—burial site of countless victims of the rape, maiming, and slaughter of the formerly enslaved but where white people love to brunch & get married—has burned to the ground.

May the ancestors continue to rest peacefully. Amen.

This is most certainly the raptors touching the first amendment fence.
By the way, this is *not* just about porn. While they certainly want to get rid of all porn, this is also a loaded gun aimed at the expression of the LGBT and other marginalized communities.
So, uh. first of all...Mike Lee can't just wave a magic wand and change the definition of obscenity. That's not how the First Amendment works.

Second, this is a naked attempt to subject the Internet to the censorious whims of the most puritanical community.

I’ll never understand why millennials act this way. Let young people have “being cool” it’s literally all you get when you’re young.
For folks at near or beyond 40 stop caring about this stuff.

Yep. Because if it's magical power they don't have to pay you for it.
A lot about societies treatment of artists went downhill as soon as people forgot it's a craft one works at becoming skilled at, not some magical power you have bestowed upon you by fairies upon your birth.

We are 100% building a new internet with even more duct tape and an even higher maintenance burden, meanwhile CEOs think LLMs are set-it-and-forget-it
Working in the field where ai is supposed to make its strongest case, I can attest to spending more of my time fixing LLM code than it would have taken to write it, and it is absolutely getting worse with each iteration.
i feel like the 2020s have been defined by a collective consumer bewilderment. they keep telling us there's great new technology, over and over—it's new and wonderful and and it's going to change the world!! and in reality it all simply suuuuuuucks

The new film “Sinners” is a symphony of vampire bites, gunshot wounds, and people being staked in the heart and left to burn alive, @adamserwer.bsky.social writes. But the true horror is the Jim Crow economy, which drives every event in the film.
The Jim Crow Economy Is the True Horror in 'Sinners'
The film illustrates the near-impossibility of upward mobility during the segregation era.

I should have been clearer: the shit you buy from CVS also comes from China but that's not what I'm concerned about. The reason we can consume a diet high in processed foods and not die of acute vitamin/mineral shortages is we fortify our food.
