In response to a cult of abuse operating within a culture of abuse, I wrote a taxonomy of abuse: what it is, how it works, and what we can learn about our part in stopping it.

Cult(ure) of Abuse
How do we deal with a culture of abuse? What is our part in ending it? How do we deal with an abusive cult of millions?

Luke Schenn is not a NHL player at this point; he may not even be an AHL player TBH. But a 2nd pairing defender is how he is being used.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Canada Post is supposed to be a service.

Do we talk about the police force or the military being "insolvent" because they don't make money?

This is absolute bullshit.

It is quite simply dishonest to describe TPUSA as a “free speech” organization and not even mention the “Professor Watchlist,” as NPR just did. Reporting on a crime does not entail adopting the victim’s views.

They don't feel shame, but they care deeply about status.

Wanting to be liked--or at least envied--is their Achilles heel. We can use that against them:it's cheap, non-violent & effective.

Social shunning of elites supporting Pinochet helped bring down the Chilean dictator: it can work here too.

I am still haunted by this poem, "The Myth Was Never The Unicorn," written by one of the teens who participated in the creative writing program at the museum this summer. A reminder that girls are always aware.

It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.

Here are some of the highlights of them unable to answer my basic questions or rebut the simplest of points. Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

The Canada Post discourse annoys me a lot because a $780M “loss” in a fiscal year equates to roughly a $19/person “fee” to run it.

It costs ~$30+ to ship a letter via UPS/Fedex/Purolator from Vancouver to Toronto.

And that’s ignoring how much it saves both Canadian businesses and consumers money.
