I am here to complain about the Toronto Maple Leafs and societal decline

I think a lot of people think the point of sports is that your team will win and then you will be happy. That is not the point of sports. The point of sports is to be sad in a group

The great poet, @actingthefulemin.bsky.social , once wrote that the point of sports is to be sad in a group. Won't you please join us in our sad, sad sports group?

The Washington Capitals are in a tailspin, losers of seven of their last nine. This comes despite sterling numbers at five-on-five that…

I recognize we all do it from time to time but you gotta put a cap on pinata posting. QTing the dumbest people alive just spreads them around while you show off how you're faster than a snail

I don't expect this to happen (Leafs are too mid to get this far down yet) but does anyone know what the pick obligations are if they draft top 5 in 2026 and top 10 in 2027? The protections on the Carlo and Laughton trades imply they'd give the 2028 1st to both BOS and PHI, which requires cloning

A lot of blame to go around with the current state of the Leafs but let's put it where it belongs: this all goes back to Patrick Marleau

They explicitly rebooted the franchise with Craig! It's not like there's even been a flimsy layer of ongoing canon
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

the weakest most sign-wavy liberalest protest is still more impactful and radical than your post, whatever your post says

it's absolutely true there's too much political talk on BlueSky to be enjoyable. i would rather make up fake hockey players and dunk on the Sens all day. but our superpower neighbour is going openly fascist and musing about annexing us. casts a bit of a pall over things

Aside: the Sony Vaio I got in 2010 was the best laptop I've ever owned. If they'd kept selling them in Canada I would never have bought another brand.
I still think the Sony VAIO PCG-505 (1998) is one of top 5 best looking laptops ever designed.

95% of grumbling about “cancel culture” is disingenuous reactionary bullshit … sustained by the 5% which is legit.

The thing which makes The Thing We Are Talking About When We Talk About “Cancel Culture” scary is the capriciousness and lack of proportion.

in hindsight it makes sense to see cancel culture as a harbinger of the end of shame rather than an excess of it. "shame" presupposes stable social norms and a sense of what one did wrong and how it could have been avoided. not suddenly a thunderbolt from zeus thrown at random people

of the many bands of my youth who flamed out before they really went anywhere, Snowden was one of the best. rhythm section that sounds like artillery and a very cool wintry tone

The pure hater energy Vlad brought to this series is all time stuff. He wanted to annihilate the Yankees and tap dance on their graves. And he did it!

a recurring theme of this season is going to be Who Can Break The Puck Out. their defencemen, who are legitimately good at many things, are mostly bad at it, and it was one of the things Marner could help with. the collapse-to-the-net defence + a bunch of limited passers = long d-zone shifts
