Solid reporting by Texas Observer:
Small lakes in East Texas are being filled in with petrochemical-laced drilling mud, classified in Texas as "non-toxic" meaning mitigation to prevent spill-off is minimal.

What they can't say is that the elected Texas Railroad Commissioners are probably profiting.
Our top story, from @liseolsen.bsky.social and @psskow.bsky.social: East Texans are uniting to fight oil waste pits in bucolic areas near Louisiana—all run by an operator who’s been cited for dozens of violations, and a worker’s death.
East Texans Fight Oil Waste Pits Run by an Operator Cited for Dozens of Violations
In bucolic areas near the Louisiana line, residents ask, "Why are Texas taxpayers liable for other states’ toxic waste?"

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Two things you can do to help remove RFK Jr:

1) Call your electeds and tell them he needs to go. There's already drafts of impeachment/removal work in both House and Senate. Tell electeds to support them.

2) Sign the petition that'll go to the HELP Committee in the Senate at firerfk.wordpress.com
seems that RFK is clearing the path for his CDC to do tuskegee syphillis experiments as a matter of course. in other news, RFK is a genuine monster who relishes in the pain and suffering of those he feels he has control or dominion over
RFK is undoing human subjects protections so he can conduct placebo trials of vaccines. That means infecting people knowingly. I wonder who will “volunteer” for these trials? If history is any guide, a lot of incarcerated and other powerless people.

I have somehow found myself slowly in the middle of my... [counts the stars] tenth or eleventh rewatch of Elementary, I think? And in commemoration of that, a reminder that I have a newsletter, and some *eighteen months ago* I wrote an issue about *just one* of the things I love about Elementary:

Above all else, Watson has always been Holmes’ strong second—one of the richest platonic relationships in fiction.

This heartfelt and meaningful statement by Portland resident and author Cristina Breshears on another social media platform bears reposting here. I don't think the intent is to idealize Portland but to remind all of us what is important and why. (Posted here with permission.)

This is the study that Jesse Singal and The Economist chose to deliberately distort in his latest attack on the trans community. Even if Jesse's bigotry overwhelmed his professional ethics, surely some editor at The Economist could/should have intervened to block publication. And yet none did.

Already seen things from NYT, BBC, & AP all failing to elucidate CRUCIAL information.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.
