Whenever I’m faced with unexpected setbacks that threaten to send me into into a spiral of despair or anger, I remember Conan O’Brien’s parting words at the end of his aborted run on The Tonight Show, and his admonition to center optimism and kindness…

Jonathan Joss--voice actor of John Redcorn from King of the Hill, and Ken Hotate from Parks and Rec--was killed in a homophobic hate crime today.

I'm so angry.

I've had actual arguments with people about "Separating art from the artist." There's no separating this. Like Idk what to tell you, but trans people should be more important to you than like dobby the elf or whatever
J.K. Rowling is using her wealth attained from the "Harry Potter" series to create an organization dedicated to removing transgender people's rights "in the workplace, in public life, and in protected female spaces.”

This is driving me crazy too. Not long ago 10% universal tariffs were considered the worst-case scenario, something even Trump wasn’t crazy enough to impose. Now have those PLUS 125% tariffs on China. Together, these raise raise inflation by about as much as original “Liberation Day” tariffs did!
why is *every* newspaper/programme running with the headline "tariffs are paused" when they haven't been.

What's happened is that every country (except China) gets a flat rate of 10% for 90 days.

People say twitter/online isn't real life, but it certainly gave a clearer view of what to expect from the incoming trump admin than the media did. You could pretty obviously see who he was surrounding himself with.
The business community wanted Trump because no one told them that he's a senile old man surrounded by nazis. The media instead sold a fake version of Trump that was a genius businessman. The reality has been somewhat startling to them!
There are pages and pages of this stuff. Hard to overstate how badly the White House is torching potential for economic activity rn.

Nobody is more ridiculed and oppressed than the white Christian conservative. A demographic that has been the dominant political force in this country the entire 47 years I’ve been alive.
What can I do to please God so much that he allows me to never hear from these people again

When elite, "serious" civil society institutions (ahem, foundations) talk about "polarization," somehow it always ends up meaning those mean liberals not wanting to socialize with people who don't share their values, rather than on the people who want to roll back half a century of civil rights law.
This is what everyone always means when they complain about "polarization"

The core "ideology" of political liberals for decades has basically been "let's do stuff that helps people." They've often fallen short in the application of it, but that's been the core belief.

The Right built out more ideological lore, but the core belief was "we should rule."

And so.
Conservatism succumbed to fascism as easily and rapidly as conservatives long (and inaccurately) warned liberalism would succumb to communism.
the complete collapse of conservatism as an ideological formation in the west feels like it should probably be more remarked on.

Always look to see what the tech bros want for their own kids: small class sizes with human teachers, human tutors with expert content knowledge, cell phone restrictions in classrooms, high per pupil spending, the arts and humanities--and much more they say is too costly for public schools.

I’m going to again post my stance on Trump and fascism from my campaign site. A lot of local Dems seemed spooked by this kind of talk, told me to “fight the far right as a private citizen and don’t attract attention to us.” But how much better would Dems be polling if they were talking this way?
