Look I agree that Elon Musk appears to be on a lot of drugs every time he appears in public. That's not very interesting to me. I'm more interested in how many drugs he can do at once. I think he could probably do more than anyone ever. I bet he could take way more than the doctors say is safe.

As ever, the loss of something good and useful for Americans is framed as a loss for Democrats — in the mass media, everything becomes just a political football to be kicked back and forth instead of examined for its impact on everyday citizens regardless of political party.

Hard to deny that the collapse of civic life is connected to:
1) the collapse of religious involvement among younger generations
2) the total collapse of local and regional news organizations.

Everyone wants to solve the problem without reversing these two changes, but that's very hard.
This is a really great piece, as Ganz's work always is. I think the inconvenient thing is the civic associationism of American history was heavily driven by local religious congregations, supplemented in the 20th century by veterans groups like the VFW. It was these groups that included "normies."
There's been a lot of talk about reinvigorating a thick civic life in the wake of the election. Back in 2017, I had the same idea and I found that while associationism might be what our democracy is missing, it was not for me.

The thing few pundits want to say is that, of all possible sets of policies, the total combination of monetary and fiscal policy that U.S. has pursued since March 2020 has produced probably something in the top 5% of possible economic outcomes given the circumstances.
A massive success.

What’s really going to bake your noodle is when you think that in the year since they have controlled the House, Republicans have launched congressional inquiries into Joe Biden, universities, and the weaponization of government, but never the widespread fraud in the 2020 election
Similarly, I don’t understand why Fox didn’t simply present its exhaustively researched proof accumulated by their journalists of Dominion stealing the election rather than handing them $787.5 million to please just drop the lawsuit. Unless of course…
