STOP with the stacking rocks in streams! How many more dead critters do you need? www.wbir.com/article/news...
'Life is tough in a mountain stream' | GSMNP urging visitors not to disturb or build with rocks after Eastern Hellbender Salamander crushed
Eastern hellbenders lay between 100 to 300 eggs beneath the rocks. If those are crushed, "entire generations can be lost in an instant."

Y’all have been poorly ratio’d here. And on your blog post.

You are already losing contributors, both through IDs and money.

Work with the existing community. I know $1.5M is a lot of money nowadays, but you’ll be losing so much more.

We gave you data. Please don’t give it to GenAI.

I'm not entirely sure what this thing is I saw while dockfouling this weekend. It looks a bit like a hydroid, but doesn't have the feathery tentacle bits so I don't know. It was incredibly hard to get into focus so this is the best shot I got of it.

Good ole Phaephyscia hirtuosa. The tree on which this lichen grows is grabbed by at least ten naturalists every week from April to October. Area of “grab” may become vacant during that period but the lichen continues to thrive. Tokikubo, Komoro, Nagano #Lichen #FungiFriends

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

I think this is underdeveloped Cladonia ramulosa. Since it doesn’t have straight stalk of ramulosa but has lots of leafy squamules, I thought it might be C. scabriuscula. Well, when in doubt, I’ll say ramulosa. Lake Matsubara, Koumi-machi, Nagano #Lichen #FungiFriends

If you love fireflies and live where they do, there are a few things you can do to help them. Don't use pesticides in your yard, leave some long grass (edges, a patch), and leave some leaves in the fall. This will help them, all the other bugs in your yard, and the birds that rely on them for food.

There’s a lot of beautiful images & illustrations I see around here. Want to hit that share button BUT there’s no AltText.

Way back on the bird-site I solicited advice from sight impaired users on how best to use it. Lots of responses but the most consistent one was: ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING
If people on here took even like 2% of the energy they have toward shitposting and arguing and put it towards alt text in their images, this place would be a whole hell of a lot improved.

Use alt text goddammit.
