comment screenshot that says I've made my feelings known in the forums, so I'm going to just pop in here and comment that the things others have said about humans being more energy-intensive/environmentally destructive is genuinely upsetting to see. People are more than numbers on a graph. To see people, with all of their experiences and passions, reduced to nothing but wiki-typing automatons in an argument in support of an actual machine is genuinely gross. Sure, the raw data might show that an LLM might be more carbon-friendly than 100 iNaturalist curators, but to disregard the lives those 100 people have beyond contributing to an iNat wiki is just, sad.

I'm not entirely sure what this thing is I saw while dockfouling this weekend. It looks a bit like a hydroid, but doesn't have the feathery tentacle bits so I don't know. It was incredibly hard to get into focus so this is the best shot I got of it.

A text message between myself and my huaband, in which I warn him that our sweet inocent little kitty had decided to chew on his computer's cables. He asks me to spray the cables with bitter apple spray to deter the chomping, and I agree. After that, I inform him that the sweet little angel bany has stolen the bitter apple lid. A text message in which I simply type "omfg," followed by a series of photographic evidence of said sweet little angel child DOING CRIME.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

I think this is underdeveloped Cladonia ramulosa. Since it doesn’t have straight stalk of ramulosa but has lots of leafy squamules, I thought it might be C. scabriuscula. Well, when in doubt, I’ll say ramulosa. Lake Matsubara, Koumi-machi, Nagano #Lichen #FungiFriends

If you love fireflies and live where they do, there are a few things you can do to help them. Don't use pesticides in your yard, leave some long grass (edges, a patch), and leave some leaves in the fall. This will help them, all the other bugs in your yard, and the birds that rely on them for food.
