You know you are high (elevation wise) if you find Lesser Salted Rocktripe Lichen. Abundant in subalpine/alpine elevations, circumpolar distribution (McCune & Geiser 2009). Cool looking, white crystalline-like ridges set against a gray thallus. Compare with U. hyperborea, dark brown in left image.
Lesser Salted Rocktripe Lichen pretty distinct in color and form. Round thallus (about 1.5 inch in diameter) is a spectrum of gray with white, crystal-like ridges running outward to edges. Has dark apothecia that are stalked. Like other Umbilicaria is found on rock.

A large patch of a "bone" lichen. Pale green tubes, mostly hanging down, somewhat bent, lumpy. Some are darker green, others almost white. Among them are several fruiting bodies, apothecia; they are like bowls with pale rims and painted a greenish brown inside. Background; dark brown Douglas-fir trunk, green of the forest behind.

I can’t quite get them into focus, but this beard lichen has tiny “flowers” on the tips (see last two photos). I imagine they release spores(?) but I never even noticed them before. They’re barely visible to the naked eye and just look like little hairs. The internet says they don’t exist. Anyone?

Time I suppose for a #painting. "Connemara Cottage II" was painted because I have a fondness for things I can't quite see properly, and even now in my chair as I look at this painting I raise myself up ever so slightly to try and see a bit more of the cottage. Mountains too though. #art #SpeirGhorm
Landscape format in painterly acrylics on canvas. Small white cottage with very dark roof and white chimney is nearly half way up to the right nestled into a ledge on a hill beside a small group of dark wine-coloured trees with pale orange trunks. In front of it a lime field slopes down to the bottom of the picture, as does a blue and green field over the stone wall to the right, and an olive green field to the left across a dark ditch, while behind the cottage are rounded hills of a darker olive green, and they're in front of a pale green and grey pointed rocky small mountain with blue mountains behind it on both sides. Sky is very pale pure blue. Along the bottom edge are the tops of some bright green bushes, and 3 small trees at the bottom of the stone wall, with pink trunks and branches rising into dark alizarin clumps. 会社の書棚整理で、戦後間もない時代の本が普通にでてくるんです。とにかく丁寧につくられていて、この時代みたいな本づくりはもうできないって、打ちのめされています。そして、敗戦後わずか5年でこんな図鑑をつくってしまった、当時の人たちの矜持も感じています。
