First #sixonSaturday for 2026 and my tiny garden is still looking very wintery so I thought I would highlight some of my resilient, “free” (ie self seeded) plants. It’s just foliage for now but later there will be flowers. Names in Alt text. 🌱

There is a little patch of Snowdrops growing at the base of a moss covered Birch tree on the edge of my village green. I’m sad that no one else seems to notice it as they rush past. It really brightens my day. #flowersonFriday 🌱

🌱 #fungifriends
One of the beautiful examples growing in Wisley’s Hilltop Wildlife garden. It is only recently that I have begun to really appreciate the different fungi that are encouraged at Wisley. It makes autumn and winter more interesting.

This beautiful moth greeted us on the Hilltop staff entrance door last Sunday. It was probably the sunniest place.
I hope 2026 will be a kinder year filled with critters, birds, plants, gardens and friends.

The Thames is so pretty at night.

#BirdoftheDay #Reflections
I live very near the Basingstoke Canal and came across this swan obsessed with its reflection in a newly painted houseboat. Its poor mate kept trying to get it to move on but in vain!

On the last day of 2025, a rose that was flowering on Christmas Day near Imperial Wharf along the Thames.

One of Wisley’s huge trees dressed for the winter festival of lights, Glow. It is only on for a few more days if you want to see it.

🌱 #magentaMonday
I spent Christmas near Imperial Wharf in London and enjoyed walking along the Thames. Apparently that area is called Sands End and it was fascinating to see how many plants (including this Hebe) were in flower. I even spotted some Agapanthus!

🌱 #SundayYellow
My last volunteering session at Wisley’s Hilltop for the year. We have had a week of bitterly cold weather so it will be interesting to see if any flowers have survived. This little fig was bravely holding on in the World Food Garden last week.

It’s a bleak time in my tiny garden and I struggled to find anything interesting to share with you but here is my #sixonSaturday 🌱 Spring will soon be here!

On Christmas Eve, we went for a quick Wisley walk and I spotted this huge Rhododendron in full flower. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Wishing you every good thing today. This charming guy (and his elf) were made by clever knitters in my village and placed outside the local supermarket. He had a lot of companions placed in every other pole.

Eighteen years ago, my sister in law got married in Scotland and these were her wedding flowers.
Happy Christmas Eve.

You can’t see all of the tree but I promise it does have a thick trunk. It is one of the oaks on the green around the corner from my house in my village.

So we are past the shortest day and can look forward to spring. I was very surprised to see these Leucojums flowering in Wisley’s Hilltop Teaching Garden yesterday. I find it worrying to see the changes in our climate and flowering times but will try to appreciate the beauty. 🌱 #BlueSkyMonday

I’m off to Wisley’s Hilltop for a morning of volunteering. I shall enjoy looking for interesting things to photograph, being with my volunteering colleagues and engaging with visitors

A beautiful leopard courtesy of WildEarth on YouTube. It keeps me entertained during the dark months of winter and I can dream of being in the African Bush. #caturday

🌱 #sixonSaturday
As it is less than a week until Christmas, here are some seasonal plants from my tiny garden.
Another dry day (hopefully) so I shall spend time outside and may even begin tackling the organising of my shed ready for spring.

On Wednesday, before our lunch date, I took my fellow Hilltop volunteers on a tour and showed them unfamiliar paths. They were amazed how many flowers we saw, most of them sweetly scented. Oh and it was a dry day unlike yesterday!

It’s set to be another damp, gloomy day so here is a memory to brighten #clematisThursday. 🌱
I have chores to keep me occupied and stitching to entertain me.

🌱 #roseWednesday with a memory from many years ago.
Today’s treat is lunch with my Hilltop volunteer colleagues. Before lunch I am going to be their Tour Guide and take them to parts of Wisley that they might not have been before.

Last week on our Tour Guide training with Jonathan, we spent time in the Arboretum, a part of Wisley that I need to spend more time in. We are blessed with an amazing collection of trees and this Tilia tomentosa is just one of them.

I stopped sending Christmas cards some years ago and instead make decorations for my friends and family instead. The first picture is this year’s offering and the second previous ones I have made. I particularly enjoyed making the purple ones.
