Forever on the look-out for the perfect image to go with my favourite quote from A Lover's Discourse
Wowee this (Cross) is the EHRC's lawyer arguing in court that a trans-inclusive women's loo is *discriminatory against cis men* because the men's might have a queue which trans women can skip HAVE YOU NOT NOTICED WHICH LOO HAS THE QUEUE OUTSIDE IT BACK IN THE REAL WORLD KISHWER MAYBE FIX THAT??
33/ Cross suggested that perhaps they are not side by side, and there might be a queue. The judge responded that a queue would be transient and would not amount to direct discrimination.

Genuinely believe with my whole heart that the stances on trans rights taken by @zackpolanski.bsky.social are contributing massively to a load of emotionally burn-out and mentally exhausted trans people having hope for the first time in bloody ages.

this strikes me as a really good framing - @elliemaeohagan.bsky.social is this one you considered in your work on this stuff?
We need to frame this as “Billionaires need to *take less* - framing it as they’re going to “pay more” implies that they’ve somehow ‘earned’ their billions - “taking less” (including taking less tax breaks) so that there’s more to go around for everyone else is grounded in equity narratives.
The Spectator are confused.

It's not going to be cost free.

Billionaires are going to pay more.

the secret is that we keep marxism sort of confused & rough around the edges so that you (you in particular!) can have the joy of setting it right. it’s like a proof left to the reader, or those scenes in video games where you have to press the X button quickly to save the world

This is the core ontological point. Biological sex is 100% real, but it is a process, not a set of categories.
The category not the act. The latter is real and it’s great. The former is made up jibber jabber.

ye gods if the reason Streeting is deliberately torturing trans children is because the press are holding back shit they have on him then there really can be no hell hot enough
and those things aren't even "we will be mean to your party's tax policy" they are "we will pull out the file on wes streeting's extracurricular activities"

Further to "late capitalism" having definitively begun on that specific fateful day in 1976, look at the kind of thing that was unleashed?? 👇👀
48 years ago today (4 November 1977), the New Statesman published this article about divisions in the Communist Party of Great Britain. It is the first written use that I have found of the term ‘tankie’ to describe someone who (uncritically) supported the Soviet Union.

I feel like we should designate the era of "late capitalism" as starting on the date the Penguin edition of Capital was published and throw it a birthday party next year
"there is no need to look very far for indications that capitalism's heyday is over. " -- Ernest Mandel, 1976

It is also truly affirming being a legal expert exactly on this topic, and having the answer still need to be 'I don't know' when you get asked.
I love living in a country where the law about what bathroom I can use is genuinely UNKNOWABLE, it’s like something from a Joseph Heller novel
This is 100% correct. Including as to the chaos the Gender Critical Ideological Movement so beloved of Labour has now descended into as their facade of respectability crumbles like the Berlin Wall.

I always thought that eventually one day I would write a book or two, but if you had told undergraduate me that my first book would be about value and be published in a series called "New Directions in Modern Economics" I would have been very skeptical indeed. Anyway, pretty, isn't it?
