yes. she investigated the case of why everyone at the new york times hated her and discovered that it was because she was too smart and too brave.
Asking this seriously: has Bari Weiss ever in her career reported out an investigative story?

related to this a lot of people in the pundit class need to learn how to just be annoyed by someone or something without turning it into What’s Wrong With America
i am fascinated by how nate silver turns everything he doesn’t like into a bespoke ideology. it’s not that he is annoyed by HCR, it is that she is a dreaded “ism” responsible for everything he doesn’t like about the democratic party. same with bluesky.

One theory I have is that competence, self-control, responsibility, and expertise have all been feminized, leaving “masculinity” with the realm of impulsivity and petulance. So the divide is not really between “femininity” and “masculinity” so much as between adulthood and childishness.
Everything else aside, the idea that this is a model for many men of *masculinity* is so wild. This? This is "manly"? This is how people think it's cool to act?

Exactly. It's disingenuous to call it a purity test to say "You shouldn't be beholden to right-wing billionaires pushing right-wing policies and right-wing candidates."

No, Progressives Don’t Want “Purity.” They Just Want Some Courage.
When left-leaning Democrats complain about corporate influence, it’s not a “purity test.” It’s a demand for a better politics.

“woke” is when you acknowledge that black people have contributed to the united states
Two panels commemorating the contribution of Black American soldiers towards the liberation of the Netherlands in World War Two have been quietly removed from a cemetery in Limburg. It follows a complaint by right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission.

The last month of the anti-Mamdani campaign was an absolutely shameful undertaking, an attempt to rip the city and Democratic coalition apart and I'm very happy to see it failed.

Party policy positioning just doesn't, and can't, work the way that some are treating it as.

Even if we stipulate that parties could pick up votes from changing their image by changing policy positions, the last part of it just doesn't work that way.

Political party policy positions are simply not chess pieces that experts in public opinion can shuffle around to maximize vote totals. Parties take positions because party actors care about those policies, and also (less relevant with death penalty) because voters want solutions to big problems.

one of the reasons voters believe the caricatures of the democratic party pushed by republicans is because the democratic party itself believes in the caricatures of the democratic party pushed by republicans
Duh. Those of us on the ground last year actually speaking with middle class/working class voters and who heard from these voters every single day the same - “Trump is an asshole, but Democrats are out of touch” - could’ve saved my new political party a lot of time & money producing this “report.”👇

the democratic party’s basic problem is it has almost no control over how its message reaches the ears of voters, especially outside of presidential election years. but rather than devote serious time, attention and cash to that problem its consultants and pundits want to fight factional battles

Can’t remember who said it but Bari Weiss’s one and only skill is convincing the dumbest rich people to give her money.

seriously, there is no evidence whatsoever that Weiss is capable of writing a news story, much less running a news organization. the actual quality of the writing at The Free Press is barely a notch above AI slop.

Cuomo is Trump's preferred candidate and yet a whole lotta big Democrats can't bring themselves to endorse Mamdani. The party needs to be cleaned out, starting with Schumer and Jeffries.

You cannot actually understand the right’s beliefs or behavior if you take their political claims at face value. But those beliefs and behavior make perfect sense and become very predictable if you understand it’s just a pretext to indulge in subrational, emotionally rooted anger and paranoia

It’s not that Klein doesn’t take the right seriously.

It’s that people like him take the right TOO seriously.

They examine right-wing beliefs as an extension of valid policy objections, rather than almost entirely arising from the right giving people permission to indulge in inchoate resentments
Real pattern that Klein doesn't take the right seriously, but what is it? Why does this keep happening? Does he agree with them because he's friendly with them, does he not understand their power or how they work, or is he playing dumb for some reason. (or is he dumb?)
Just tried watching Ezra Klein’s latest NYT podcast episode on how the U.S. got to this point where vaccines are so politicized.

It’s pretty clear that Klein and his guests—David Wallace Wells and Rachael Bedard—really do not understand why/how the political right turned on vaccines.

Actual human communication is dramatically more complicated that. Democrats have, without exaggeration, driven American democracy into a wall by outsourcing their brains to this class of hucksters, who pretend to insight but who have never successfully changed the public narrative on anything.
