...so I've been a professional writer since I was 18, and I just applied for my UK state pension, so I have officially made it all the way through adulthood without ever having a day-job other than writing. Mostly genre fiction: SFFH, crime, etc.

They think that there are so many left-leaning people in America because of Marxist professors and the like indoctrinating us. They seem to have forgotten that they have crashed the economy now four times in just my lifetime with their greed and avarice. That’s enough to be anti-capitalist.

I read the first chapter of THREE TWINS Monday just before bed because it was too late for Seanan’s novella. It made me want to binge the first three books but I think I’ll ration them because they promise to be a really enjoyable series. Our children are triplets too (our version of three twins). 😊

I’m lucky, my preorder arrived at my local bookshop last week, and I finished the bonus novella this morning. Compelling reading as usual.
Going back to the also riveting NeoG series, by @kbwagers.com for books 3 and 4.
After that, the Crater School series (trilogy?), by @chazbrenchley.bsky.social.

I frame much of my discussion through analysis of works by @lauriejmarks.bsky.social & @chazbrenchley.bsky.social - 2 authors of queer fantasy whose work has recently been vital to how I've been thinking about the genre & what it's able to say about queerness and/or religion.

Getting a lot of "I tried that, but Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time and Kingkiller ruined me!" replies.

Pull up a chair and I'll explain how publishing works.
I know others have said this, but if you love a series, BUY THE BOOKS AS THEY COME OUT. You can go on a reading spree later, but for the love of god, buy the books now.

All I want is to retire to a charming seaside town, live with my cat, run a quirky bookstore that doubles as a potion shop, occasionally transform fools into frogs, and maybe crack a local murder mystery or two. Simple dreams, really.

It's publication day! (This is book four of six, and yes, you do absolutely have to read them in order, so if you haven't yet, picking up number one (The Devil in the Dust) would be a fine way to celebrate my forthcoming birthday, just sayin'...)
Happy Publication Day to Chaz Brenchley for The Feast of the King's Shadow, book 4 in the Outremer series. Amazon have been slow getting the paper editions up, and we don't have stock right now, but other stores are on the ball and you can get ebooks in the usual places.

people tell you the best thing about having written a book is getting to call yourself a published author or sharing your vision with the world but really the best thing about having written a book is that you don't have to write it anymore

In 1659, the the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted a law that declared that Christmas was sacrilege and exchanging of gifts, greetings, and wearing fine clothing on that day was Satanic. Anyone caught celebrating was fined 5 shillings. (About 5 days wages.)

The "War on Christmas" was an inside job.

Guru Nanak Kitchen in Edinburgh was handing out free meals and I asked if it was OK to take one even though I could afford to buy something. They told me firmly that it was important that people who didn't NEED free food took it, so that those who did NEED it could take without feeling exposed.
