This was in @wtpress.bsky.social's Wiz Duo #3, along with the also v good Walking A Wounded Land by Andrew Knighton. 2 of the better novellas I've read this year in a good year for them.

Both well written, both queer, both (from v different angles) concerned with links between people & place.
