pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

My latest is a love letter to Chicago. "I see you stumbling through the stubborn, awkward rhythm of showing up, again and again. I see you fighting alongside people who sometimes frustrate and confuse you, and defending neighbors you may have never met, because you know they’re all your people."
In Chicago, We Run Toward Danger Together

i love this for everyone their mom has interacted with since the 90s
My mum just said to me "You should be hung like a horse". When I challenged her over saying such a thing, it transpires she thought it was a punishment horses got. Turns out she's been incorrectly using the phrase since the 90s in various settings

Got an amber ring I bought in Gdansk in 1994 resized. I wore it daily for more than a decade and my hand remembers it like it never left.

It's publication day for Read This When Things Fall Apart! So grateful to our contributors and to @akpress.org for making this book a reality. This is a strange time to be promoting a book, but I believe it's a text that has the potential to help us right now. Please get yourself a copy. ❤️

For #Noirvember we’re starting out with Fritz Lang’s The Blue Gardenia and so far these chatty roommates in the opening scenes are delightful, would watch endless loops of them making gentle & deadly accurate fun of each other.

I successfully evaded the pull of my couch on this gray November day. Dropped some jewelry off for repair and am trying out a neighborhood pupusa joint up the block (Las Delicias, for locals). So far the smell inside is mouthwatering and the music is good. #RogersPark

The American adoptees who fear deportation to a country they can't remember
Thousands of US adoptees do not have citizenship despite being brought to the country as babies decades ago. Now many fear deportation.

I cannot believe we are still talking about the nazi tattoo.
On the off chance I haven't blocked everyone who needs to understand this:
We can't afford the benefit of doubt on that.
If you do nazi stuff, people targeted by nazis MUST assume you're a nazi.
