I have to chuckle because the most energy the Democratic Party in Florida had in recent memory is when they were working on ending felony disenfranchisement and running prosecutors promising to enact less carceral policies.
I really feel like more people need to constructively engage with this! You can think the moderation/centrism discourse is often braindead (as I do!) but the center left really needs a pretty robust convo about what winning, say, an Iowa or Kansas or Texas or Ohio senate seat would look like.

I know I’m beating a dead horse on this lately, but pundits and consultants who argue for this stuff are actually just arguing that politicians should cater to the views that *they* hold, which they believe are uniquely reasonable and universal. Actual swing voters have mostly incoherent politics!

the thing about “democrats should take popular cultural positions” is that what constitutes popular is a function of an interaction between the public and elites. if a faction of elites start screaming about a vulnerable minority and another faction says they have a point, this shapes the public.
