there’s comfort in knowing this whole class of chud will have whistle-related PTSD for the rest of their lives
I have been arguing since the great anti Muslim panic under Bush that conservatives are fucking weak ass fuckers. They’re goddamned scared of EVERYTHING. Muslims. Black people. Women. Drag queens. I’ve never seen a more scared ass group in my life. They’re fucking scared of WHISTLES.

I've had "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Battle Cry of Freedom" stuck in my head for like two weeks now as I've been watching Ken Burns' Civil War, basically the entire thing is set to one of those two songs

Frankenstein is so damn good
I often think about this bc the book is a set of nested frames where each subsequent frame helps you decipher the previous speaker, so, for example, we encounter Victor telling us the creature’s story, which becomes a way to understand Victor (boo! hiss!). The refugee story is the center frame.
At the center of the novel Frankenstein is the story of a refugee family who lost everything to protect others from persecution. It’s from this family that the creature vicariously learns language and begins to consider how it should relate to its maker.

I am going to be honest, this guy needs to be putting some of this into therapy instead of into writing. I find most of his stuff thought-terminating existential dread instead of actually working on strategy and structure to make positive change.

I’m sure Marty Reisman is a crazy dude, but this all gives off the same energy as movies like Catch Me If You Can or Wolf of Wall Street, where the IRL subjects were like “oh yeah I made a ton of that shit up”
The Ping-Pong Hustler Who Inspired ‘Marty Supreme’. “If Chalamet has found, in this role, an all-time character, it is surely in no small part because Reisman was an all-time character.” (Saw the movie; loved it.) [nytimes.com]
The Ping-Pong Hustler Who Inspired ‘Marty Supreme’
Volleying questions with the table tennis champ Marty Reisman, an inspiration for Timothée Chalamet’s new film, showed that he was a character in his own right.

Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s incredible. My favorite so far is last week’s. Legit got me emotional.

Last week I slurped some very spicy ramen and a noodle whipped directly into my eye. I was flushing my eye at the table with water and napkins
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.
